How does a cake taste when a recipe calls for sour cream. All I can picture is the sour cream flavored chips.
Can anyone tell me if it tastes different from what I'm imagining.
They taste rich and moist and the tangy flavor isn't evident. My standard chocolate cake calls for 16 oz. sour cream and it rocks! I hate the stuff and you couldn't pay me enough to eat it out of the carton but I love cooking with it.
Best yellow cake I've tasted is with sour cream.
I always search for recipes that call for sour cream OR buttermilk; somehow, I think they're ALways better.
You can't *taste* it, but it sure add something wonderful. Try one.
You really don't taste the sour cream. It makes the cake very moist and tender. Try it, I'm sure you will like it. Its kinda like cooking with buttermilk. Out of the carton, YUK!!!!!! But in baking, It is great.
I used the CC Recipe - Enhanced Cake Formula, I double it, takes longer to cook. The cake all turn out beautifully. I think the sour cream makes it so nice.
To me the sour cream gives the cake a lightness. I mean it just feels lighter to me. I put sour cream in my butter cakes and I hate how dense the butter cake are, but the sour cream makes it lighter and so yummy.
I have used mayonnaise too...makes them really moist as well...but all of thee above....the sour cream makes them awesome....I will never bake just a box cake again without using the extender recipe.
