Comments are important! It's important to give each other praise and advice on our hard work. Who else but another cake decorator knows how much time and effort goes into each cake!! I'm pretty new to cake decorating but the wonderful comments I've received on the cakes I have done have made me want to try to do more and different things with cake. My son was so thrilled with the B-day cake I made for his 25th B-day that he designed and made a cake himself (with a little help) on his brief visit home! We posted it in my gallery and he received a few really great comments! He's already planning his next cake! It's encouragement to keep on decorating when we receive comments! Sometimes I don't get to visit the galleries as often as I like. I usually always go to the pictures last uploaded. I just signed up to be a gallery supporter too so I can visit the uncommented cake pics now!

Speaking for myself . I haven't posted any pics for ages because I feel bad hoping for others to comment on my own cakes when I can't promise to reciprocate.

Often all I can manage is 'read-only' mode when I get on here - I'd like to post, comment on pictures but my brain won't let me - ooh the joys of AD/HD.

My prob is that I can look at the photos and spend ages just trying to:

a) formulate a comment that is appropriate, that will not inadvertently offend (I suffer badly from 'Blurt's Disease' aka 'foot in mouth')

b) show that I have looked at the picture carefully, thought about my comment (I over-compensate for my AD/HD carelessness by trying to be super-conscientious.)

.. after spending ages procrastinating over what to write - I end up writing zilch.

I'm sure this happens for many other non AD/HD CCers too...

Edited to add: This is not a 'poor little me' post - just an explanation of the way it is!!

I feel its not only imp. to appreciate a cake. According to me when someone critizes the cake it helps u to do better next time. Im not saying dont appreciate, ofcourse we shld do tht. But tips for improvement are also very helpful. I've noticed here tht no one does tht.

But another thing is tht it shld b taken negatively. Maybe thts y no one comments.....

This is just my opinion. Im sorry if it offended anyone.

I didn't realize that the comments were so important to some people. I have been guilty of visiting pics and just saving them to my hard drive if I like them. Now that I see what it means to have that little boost from your online pals I will be sure to leave comments from now on.

Does anyone know how long it takes to be "approved" to be a gallery supporter member? I requested membership a few days ago but have not heard whether/if I'll be approved.

I am guilty also. I am bad about being in a hurry and just saving something to my favorites album and not commenting on it. I didn't realize how badly that might affect someone until I began posting pics. Now I see that a pic that gets 237 views and only 3 comments makes the poster feel like no one likes the cake. I am doing better with my comments.

I agree. What kind of hurts is when you see that your photos have been viewed 20 times and yet not a SINGLE comment. I know, I don't have ANYTHING amazing in my photos, but each cake represents hard work and time. That's ok though, I'm happy with them and DH is proud of me.

That is the reason to post the pics in the first place - to get that positive feedback or constructive critism. If you were just looking for a place to store them, you could leave them on your hard drive. icon_wink.gif

I post my pictures to share ideas with others. It is nice to get comments, but I don't worry about it if I don't get them. I know people are busy. I'm busy! Share and feel good that you probably helped someone.

The gallery is REALLY slow tonight, but I made it through an entire page. There were some very cute cakes-I think people have just been BUSY with the 7-7-07 week! I did two wedding cakes almost 7 hours away and haven't had time to post photos! icon_biggrin.gif

I personally do not want anyone making a comment on any of my cakes, if they weren't inspired to do so. To leave a comment just because they don't have one seems kind of dishonest to me. I had such a comment left on one of my pics. I knew when I posted it that it was not a wow cake, I posted it because it was a little different idea. It got no comments for a day.....then a comment was left and I know it was only because they felt sorry for me. Since then several for real comments have been left....those I appreciate. I like leaving comments when someone has done something I would never have thought of, or did an outstanding job of carrying out an idea. I think we all admire the effort of each and every decorator on here. Keep on decorating cakes and posting pictures. Be proud of what you have done and where you are going with it. Work on getting original ideas to post and the comments will happen. If every picture gets generic comments it will be hard for you to know when you have honestly come up with an idea which caught the attention of someone. The above statement is my personal feelings only.

It seems silly to have the uncommented section restricted. How else will we know what we have missed and who needs a pat on the back? I don't have time to be a gallery member but I'm happy to help when I'm here.

I just want to say that i agree that i do not post my pics on here to get comments. I post them just to share really. If i get a cake that is commented on, it makes me happy. I just think, though, that people are taking this WAY too seriously. I am also in agreement that i don't want fake comments! I comment on cakes that i think are great, or that i love the idea. I don't think my cakes are the best, but sometimes we have to be our OWN biggest fan!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's time to start pumping ourselves up about our work. Everyone here has talent from what i've seen...
