I'm probably obsessing here, but every time I turn around, there is a nother recipe, another cookbook, that I want to try, in my quest for "the perfect set of recipes". At what point do you stop messing around with all the experiments and keep "your" recipes steady?

I guess I don't know when to know for sure that a recipe is a keeper and there's nothing better out there .... advice?

I think once you have one that you think is delicious, it can be your 'go to' recipe for that flavor.

Then, evey now and then, when you are baking for friends or family, try something different that everyone is raving about.

The unusual flavors won't get much play, and many less thn perfect cakes can be wonderful with a good filling and icing.

It is like cake decorating books and magazines. After a while, you have so many, the ideas are screaming in your head. I have stopped buying them.

I usually use a recipe that I like. Unless I'm looking for something in particular or a recipe jumps out at me. I use the same old ones. I'm a rut person, don't venture far of the path. Besides if you know a recipe works, stick to it & make variations from it.
