I have made lots of cakes. Sometimes for my husband's work (shop get-togethers, Christmas parties and such). Everyone thinks they're beautiful. But at the end of party, it's still there uncut. No one cuts into it!!!! They say it's too pretty. Hello! Just cut into it, I don't want to be bringing all that cake back home with me. It happened to me again last night. I brought a CCC (1st one I've ever made) to a Ladies Salad Supper at our church. I figured with just having to pull the cupcake off, it'd be all gone. Nope! Still too pretty. People are so crazy.

I never have problems with birthday cakes though. They always get eaten! Just have to put this in here. This past weekend my 4 yr old son had 2 birthday parties to go to on Saturday. On the way to one of them, he started getting upset. "Mom, we forgot to bring their birthday cake". I started laughing. Had to tell him they didn't ask me to make there cake, they bought one from another place. He's kind of used to me bringing the cake to the party icon_smile.gif

I have experience this before. When I take them into work, nobody wants to be the first to cut into it. So what I do, is if after about an hour, if nobody has cut it, i do!! Once that first piece is cut, it seems to fly off the cake board!!! icon_lol.gif

Oh and by the way...I love that story about your son. That is great! icon_biggrin.gif

Ive had that problem a couple of times and it really annoys me too! I'm like "helllooooo...it's a cake...it's supposed to be eaten". So most of the time if I'm at the event, they will make me cut it for fear of 'messing it up'. Which that annoys me too because I'm like this is not MY cake...it's YOURS...you cut it." But all in all, I guess we should be flattered...I guess.

That has happened at work the last two times. My 13 yr old is taking the wilton course 1 classes. I bring the cakes to work and they are afraid to cut the cake. So I go and cut the first piece and then they'll cut from there. Some people are just wierd like that!

I made a 3-D Thomas the Train for my step-son's 6th Birthday, and he would not cut it! He couldn't stand the idea of destroying Thomas!! icon_biggrin.gif He was too cute, so it had to be taken to work, and once someone cut off the cow catcher it was ALL OVER.

It happens to me all the time.... They always say, it is a work of ART, too pretty to eat and I think it is annoying and irritating...I always say, it is meant to be eaten, not looked at..

I had this problem last Friday night with the Red Hat cake that I made.....all the ladies were picking up things from the dessert table and I turned to my mom and said "I can't believe no one wanted any cake!". One lady turned around and said "oh - it's too pretty to cut!". I just smiled and said "it's just flour, sugar and eggs....and if you guys don't eat it, I have to take it home!". I walked right over to the table, cut about 10 slices out of it and walked back in the house. Came back out 5 minutes later and the cake was GONE!

Hey Amber!!

Are you all healed up from the wreck? Tammy shared pics w/ me. Glad you guys weren't severly hurt!

Just get in there & cut those beautiful cakes of yours when they are not getting eaten!!!!!! Heck I would even start putting slices on plates & get someone to hand them out to everyone! They just don't want to mess up your wonderful work of art that's all!! I have to do that all the time! Especially when I make a cake for family functions!

Take Care, ~Tina~

Take a bow ladies, this just proves how talented you are. thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif . No one wants to be the first to cut up a work of art.

When I did the 3D Winnie The Pooh carousel cake for a baby shower they would not cut the Pooh, took it home to freeze for the baby's first birthday. They had never seen a 3D cake before.

People have asked me if I am bothered when they cut into my cakes. I always tell them once I get my picture of it then I don't care! icon_wink.gif

sometimes people do feel hesitant about "destroying" your work (which is sweet of them), but sometimes people are just scared and timid, not just of cutting an usually-shaped (like a 3-d) cake, but even regular ol' round dessert cakes! when my department at work has cakes for birthdays (and whatever other reasons we can come up with to have cake), i end up cutting and serving.

Ouch, that accident sounds scarey, glad you are recouperating!
I think people don't want to make the first cut, so cut a piece, or a row, after that they will feel comfortable with it. That drives me nuts too!

icon_cool.gif I had something similar only I did the "jump start" thing..after about 1/2 hour of everyone "ooohhinngg and awwwing" the cake, I just took the cake slicer knife and made a first slice and left the knife in the cake. Then everyone who thought "I" was serving, after I told them no way, I baked and decorated, you all come and get it.........then the cake started to fly off the cake board...People are just too funny........
