Well, here they finally are. There were about 14 or 15 tables with these wilton centerpieces. I don't think the square cupcakes would have fit, so it was a blessing in disguise that I could not get the pans. I am not sure I will go through this one again...next time, I am upping the price!! More stress than worth the hassle! Nonetheless, I'll still put them on my website!
Good for you ... the centerpieces look like they added a very elegant touch to the wedding. I don't know anything about making cupcakes, but for some reason I was thinking about transporting 400 cupcakes and I wondered how you did it? Do they have special cupcake inserts so they don't tip over or rub against one another during transit?
If you are having this much trouble getting her to commit, what makes you think you are not going to have trouble getting her to pay for these cupcakes? Do not do them without full payment.
.......That is the answer all of us should give to clients who do not pay up on time.

AMEN/WOMEN- you people are pros here- you do EXCELLENT Work- all of you who do this as a business venture- you need to watch for signs like that- people like that are trouble down the road. Either you see her behaviour as a sign to just send money back or walk away entirely, or tread very carefully and get everything upfront and in writing before spending any time or money on anything.
I do agree the pans were part ofthe original contract- you couldnt get them from your supplier- that's not her fault. If you pay the pan people and they dont produce the pans, do they get to keep the money? No. Not speaking with any cake biz experience here but other biz experience. Not your fault either the cake pans didnt come through but that was part of the transaction you did with her. So you need to really look carefully at what you put into your contract.
You wanna try and do right by people by offering alternatives. Sometimes when they behave the way she did though, you just know nothing you are going to do will be satisfactory/ or you will end up with an ongoing saga /headache as we've seen many stories in here.
I would concur that having a nonrefundable consultation fee towards the eventual product is in order. If you can't fulfill the order in the first place though, it's not right to keep that money.
I think you did great from that end of things in handling this!
I also think you charge WAY too little for your work LOL
and I ALSO think those cupcakes are fantastic!
One question: are you doing their wedding cake order too?
Cool! I was reading along and trying to imagine what these would look like. Very nice!
Those are so beautiful and elegant! I'm glad it all worked out. Just think, that's another 200 or so potential new customers .
What colors did you mix to get that beautiful color? I've always wondered how you get the Tiffany color.
I think these cupcakes are just adorable. EXCELLENT work!
As for the bride.....
I know we often fall into the habit of assuming the worst of people, especially when presented with watertight reasons why we are JUSTIFIED to feel that way.
But isn't it possible that this bride was acting just the way a bride WOULD act, with just weeks to go before the wedding - a wedding which, from all accounts (and after participating in not one, but two, ENORMOUS GREEK WEDFESTS myself) was so tremendously huge that probably had her so stressed she'd have to consult her drivers license if anyone asked her name?
Thanks everyone! It worked out amicably, and I am happy about that.
Oh, by the way, I was dealing with the sister of the groom who was planning the rehearsal dinner, not the bride, but I'm sure she was still pretty stressed out!
Oh wow - SOGs are sometimes worse!
I'm glad it worked out and I really love those cupcakes!
Love your cupcakes! And how DID you get that beautiful color? I think you handled the situation very wel. I don't think stress is a good excuse for being that rude but it worked out and I hope you get all the customers you want out of that rehersal dinner. Congrats on the beautiful job!
The cupcakes are gorgeous and I agree -- if you'd done the square ones, I doubt they would have fit into those trees.
When we're in the midst of intense drama/trauma like that, it's always hard to remember that "everything happens for a reason."
I think you've handled everything beautifully.
Hi everyone, (sorry, this is long)
Just ran into a little problem with a customer, and need some input. This girl put in an order for 200 square Tiffany box cupcakes for her brother's rehearsal dinner for August 31st in mid July. I am charging her 2.00 a cupcake for a total of 400.00 for the order. I don't have square cupcake pans, but a few people here took me to a website where they were sold.
Well, when I went to order them 4 weeks ago, they were on back order. Then I was on vacation. When I called last week, they still did not have them. So very early last week, I called the girl to let her know that I was unable to get the square cupcake pans. what would she like me to do instead.
She said, "I'll call you right back". She did not call me right back. So I called her again, got her voice mail, and left a message.
Did not hear a word from her. I got busy over the weekend, and thought for sure that she would call back. Still nothing.
So first thing this morning, I got a hold of her. She was at the bank and said, "I'll call you right back." Guess what happened? NOTHING!! She did not call me back.
So I called her again this evening. I got to talk to her for 2 minutes, and I told her my idea of doing round instead of square, but that I'd upgrade them to fondant to make up for it. She just whined that I did not have square cupcake pans. I told her, "I'm sorry, but that is not something I have control of right now." Then she said, "Can I call you right back? I promise it'll be one minute."
Guess what happened? Yep. No call.
So I called her back in 1/2 hour, and left a message on her VM saying that if I did not get confirmation from her about what she wanted to do with these cupcakes by tomorrow morning, that I will send her the 50.00 deposit back and I will be obliged to cancel the job. I told her that I cannot guess as to what she would be happy with, and that I will not make 200 round Tiffany box cupakes without confirmation from her that it is ok. I also told her that since the cupcakes are due Thursday, I start all my preps Tuesday, making the bows and logos and fondant. So if she still wants these cupcakes, she needs to call me. If not, I am happy to send back her money.
Any advice or suggestions??
Thanks,
Ellen
Just saw this thread. I'm curious as to what happened. Did you make the cupcakes after all?
Ellen, I would never have thought cupcakes could look so pretty. Beautiful work. Did you post these in the photo gallery here? I think I must have missed them next to the beautiful gown cake?? Thank you for being so inspiring to me. (am I am sure many of us)!
I may be wrong here, but I don't think ediecakes was saying you were charging too much. I think she was just suspecting the customer of having buyer's remorse. I don't think any of us doubt that the cupcakes you are making are worth AT LEAST what you're charging, if not ALOT more!
Thank you, that is what i meant to say!
The cupcakes are adorable!
Great work !! The cupcakes look beautiful !!! Did you use the Wilton Teal coloring? I have some of that and it looks fairly similar in color.

These are amazing. I truly hope your customer appreciates you!! Some customers do not understand how much work it is.....but yours beat the cake!!!! Without them, their tables would not have been so beautiful - and I'm certain they were delicious! Great work and best wishes with your pregnancy!!!
Ellepal,
I'm so stunned by your beautiful work! Glad you got those beautiful cupcakes done and delivered well, too...
I just have one more thing:
