I can't imagine being "over the hill" at 30! One idea would be to have a series of "hills", maybe labeling them 30, 40, etc, with them in graduating sizes, saying something like "you've only just begun"! Janice

I remember when in my teens 30 seemed OLD...LOL. Now in my late 30's ....it seems like 30 is when you are just really beginning adult life!

You can do the round cake with the center out that looks like a well-with a figure falling through it-I did it for a 40 year old birthda, you can also do one with the spector"I'm here just for the cake", or the horseshoe with 30 on top and 29, 28, 27, etc going down the left and 40, 50 etc going down the right....just a couple ideas-I have used all three...

heh im doing an over the hill cake the tomb stone thing for home and a dragon cake for my hubs work. he'll be 31 so i like to tease him that hes getting old

I just noticed one inthe Wilton yearbook.. 2005 or 2006... I cant remember... it's a round cake with candles in a circle as sort of a border with a cookie person in the middle looking frightened and it says, "we've got you surrounded" and somewhere on it it had a 30... sorry... going off memory here at the moment!

It's probably the only "over the hill" one I wouldn't have freaked out over for my 30th!!!

Does anyone remember waaaaay back in the hippie days when the saying was "Never trust anyone over 30"? What about something along those lines..... say maybe a mound in the middle of the cake with the number 30 and a person standing exactly in the middle with the words "Trustable" and "Untrustable" on either side of the hill. Kind of like a trustometer.

Here is one I did for someone. It was kind of a pain sculpting the numbers, but everyone loved it.

Sorry I have to say this, but my dad died 2 days after his 50th birthday of a sudden heart attack, otherwise in pretty good health. When I hear mention of the grave theme or tombstone cakes, I always cringe. I know they're all in good fun, but just make sure the person is totally expecting something like that!

AMEN! I had always wondered if I was the only one who didn't care for those themes! I mean I am an adult and realize death is a part of life...but not something I deal with well enough to joke about it or put it on a celebration cake! I don't mind doing it for Halloween cuz I think of it in a unrealistic way...I know it might sound petty...but I lost my mom and dad.. not too far apart, then a 9 and 11 yr old niece and nephew in a tragic fire. last year..my dear brother ( my best friend as well) at 40 in his sleep last year and another 2 year old nephew to drowning in their backyard pool just a few months ago...I guess I am a litte touchy on the subject...all of those within a 5 year time.

Thanks! I am dealing with it quite well. I didn't mean to whine..lol..just one of things I had never ssaid to anyone but was glad to hear someone else didn't find it cheerful.

I don't much care for the morbid theme, but I have no problem with the theme of not wanting to get older. Have a nice pretty cake, and the words saying "29 FOREVER!!!!!!" and "29 and counting" or something like that.

I just turned 30 and I am with Gina I love the idea of a "29" forever kind of cake. I recently bought a t-shirt that says "29 forever" and why not celebrate how young I feel rather than the reality that I am getting older.

I always kinda liked "29 and holding" (or 39, whatever the number). I think a birthday should be a fun time, whatever the year may be! Janice
