I was so worried about this cake and I planned and planned it and thought I would get it just right but no it is a disaster. I just want to cry and one of the worst things is I actually have to attend the wedding. I had a hard time trying to design it around the topper with the wedding colors, I finally figured it out and thought I could make a really nice cake. so it is hotter then heck here and she wanted cream cheese, no problem right I would just stabalize it and all would be good. So I do that and fill my layers stack them ice the cake and first thing I see are bulges, Of course it has to happen on a big wedding cake, I never have that problem but when it really counts...... So to more on my icing wouldn't smooth nicely for anything so late last night I decide ok gonna cover it in fondant. SO I make it and it doesnt' have long enough to sit, so needless to say it is not the smoothest I could hope for. Then I try to put my drapes on and they just dont look right and I kept changing the design. I was up till 6 this morning and just want to scrap it and start over but I have to leave in an hour for the wedding and try to set up this four tiered disaster. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Oh, what's a girl to do. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

Sit down, take a breath, say a small prayer, and know that it WILL be okay.

First, it's not as bad a you think! I just came from setting up two cakes one of my own and helped a friend with another. I thought my cake was horrible until I saw her's and tried to help her fix it. My hubby says that I am my own worst critic. He's probably right.

Second, I want to see this cake. I think you are over exaggerating!

Awww...sweetie. Sounds as if you are exhausted from your efforts. Please take some time for yourself when you return from the wedding. Most likely, the bride and groom will be delighted with your cake. We are our own worst critics.

Just remember... no one else will know what didn't go right, or what you were going to do, but it didn't work, etc. They are going to see the lovely cake that you put there, and they are going to taste it and 'ooohhhh and aaahhhh' all the way through it. You will be a hero by the end of the night!! BELIEVE IN YOU... WE DO!!!

Thanks all. SO I made it up the mnt. and the cake made it too. It was a gorgeous place but an out door wedding. So I set all up on a table then in come the black clouds and thunder. So I took the whole thing apart packed it back in boxes put it back in the car and drove it down the driveway and unloaded it in the house. Then we waited until everything was done to set back up b.c it was sunny then the clouds started to roll in again. Got it all back up but with all the moving and taking apart the drapes started to give. Oh, I was so upset then I was having my husband help me center it on a crooked table and he saw it as straight and it was far from it. I step back and oh, goodness was it crooked. I think this was just a doomed thing. I guess I am really glad it was such a casual wedding. Horses all over and most people were in jeans and shorts. Anyway long and short I still hate it and they all just thought it was so pretty. No counting for taste. then I never even got a shot of it staightened out. But It probably wouldnt' matter I would never be happy. I guess it is just time to move on. And on a good note it did taste good. icon_wink.gif

Very well said Melvira...I ditto that.
I am so sorry to hear about all of this business... I know all too well what that feels like when things do not go as planned and it's not fun. Like you said everyone liked it and most importantly it was yummy. Don't let this day discourage you. I am really curious to see pics I am sure you are being very hard on your self.

It really is just beautiful. I love the butterflies and the soft colors. Personally I spend way too much time analyizing all of my flaws rather than looking at all the beatiful parts.

Thanks you all are too kind, thanks for all the support. It is nice to be able to vent. I did make the butterflies. they are wafer paper and royal icing. You know I still walk away wondering what they are saying when I am not there. I need to lighten up huh?! I am a bit anal about it and I dont always do a great job but I want to put good work out there. The best I can. I can't wait till the day I am half the pro of lots of the people on here. icon_wink.gif

I am just like you - no cake ever matches the idyllic picture in my head and I'm never as happy with the end product as I should be. But I do believe that other people see it differently and when people go out of their way to compliment you, they really are complimenting you.

The cake is very pretty. I don't know what on earth I would have come up with design-wise to go with that topper. That was a tough challenge but you pulled it off well.

Wow...you had me thinking the cake would be horrid! It was beautiful!!! Considering what you had to go through just to get it set up (finally!), it's a miracle that the cake was still standing! I, like you, am my own worst critic. Your drapes are wonderful...and the colors and design are also! Quit worrying about it--the worst is over! And, even if it wasn't perfect (no cake ever is!!!), it was made with love and you really did do a great job! Pat yourself on the back for not having a nervous breakdown through all this!

Honey, if I'd been hauled up & down a mountain as many times as that cake - I'd be a little tilted too!! It looks great and as long as the B&G were happy, what else matters? Go back down the mountain, have a cool one and put your feet up. You deserve it!

susancakebabies,
I set up the cake and left, and let me tell you, its no easier than staying, Im still having anxiety over how the cake turned out.Im sure Ill hear all about it on monday. The cake was for a LT at work's daughter.Im nervous about what he will say when he comes in.I know what was wrong with the cake, but "non cake decorators" dont have a clue. They are so amazed at the end result. Think back on the time before you became a cake decorator,Im sure youll feel better. And the cake did look very pretty.

i think your cake is very nice, you did a great job of the design matching the toppper.it looks elegant and simple.I think you handled it well considering how many times it had to be moved!!plus heat plays a big roll in the cake buiss dear!!!!!!!!!I did a Huge wedding cake recently and the top tier started to lean, but that was after the couple arrived for thier reception!!!I was just hoping THEY would see it straight then I was good with it leaning cause I couldn't do a thing to stop it!!!!!!!!! you did good.
