I am planning on teaching a cookie decorating class at my church as a fund raiser. The class fee will cover the cost of supplies.....approximately 6 six per class participant and a goody bag of some very basic tools (two disposable decorating bags, 5 parchment triangles, one coupler and two tips). I will also supply all the royal icing, food coloring, etc....to be used druing the class. The cost for all the supplies will have to come out of the proceeds.

The class size will be 10 people.

Is a class fee of $35 enough?

"approximately six cookies per class participant" .....I left out the word 'cookies' in my previous post

Is this a recurring class like Wilton? ( every tuesday night for 2 hr. - 4 weeks) If it is just for one class, is it a long one or just a couple of hours?

I was ok paying $25 for 8hrs of Wilton lessons.... but I would never have paid $35 for one class... then again, I am cheap icon_redface.gif I know my instructor was going to offer a gumpaste flower course for $75 ( 8 hrs. total ) and I couldn't afford it even though I'm sure it was worth it icon_smile.gif

This would be an all day saturday class (9am - 4pm) and a lite lunch will also be provided. It is not a Wilton class.

I was hoping that since people would be getting a few supplies and lunch that $35 wouldn't seem so high. Since it is a fund raiser, the event has to make some money.

Class participants will also have the opportunity to bake their own cookies (if they so desire). We'll go over using royal icing, fondant, rolled buttercream, gum paste, luster/peral dust....pretty much everything that can be used to decorate a cookie.

I am taking a two hour cookie class in a couple of weeks. I paid $25 dollars and I have to bring my own cookies, icing and all supplies. I am thinking that $35 is a steal especially since people will know part of it is for a good cause.

Ohh... I also missed the part about the fund raiser. If you are providing all the supplies and lunch plus the actual cookie dough/icing, I would say $35 might not be enough icon_smile.gif

That sounds reasonable. There is a place in Spokane WA by me that offers cookie bouquet classes for one day for about 4 to 5 hours and they charge $25. They don't give you a goody bag but they do make all the cookies, give you the icing or whatever to decorate and a container for the bouquet. I want to take one of the classes but haven't yet. I did take one that my Wilton instructor did and it cost $12--I had to make the cookies and the icing and bring my own container for the bouquet. And lunch, what a deal and for a fund raiser. I would pay that--where do I sign up at? LOL Good luck!

well, if I did my math correctly and estimated the cost of supplies, the event should make just a little over $200. I am hoping that some of the ladies at church will make food for the lite lunch.

sounds like a good deal! i would definately pay that for a one time cookie class. sounds to me like you are giving them all and it's cheap price for the class. I took a cookie class w/toba Garett from 9-3pm. it was 120.00.
we were able to use all the supplies at the school and make the cookies right then and there too. we got the cookies and boxes to take home with us.
Someone mentioned if it was like a cake course. you figure if you pay lets say 25. for the 4 class course from wilton and you still gotta get your own supplies. why not pay 35 for the cookie class?! right? i totally would. I know this is not the same, but just an example.
adding.... i have asked micheals if they will ever do that. i'm sure the charge would be up there. ($$$)

have fun w/the class!
