I finished Course I and I want to continue with the rest through the Wilton Book... Is it advisable to take classes rather than just getting the book and doing things your own?

I"m glad that I took all three classes. I needed help with royal icing consistency that I don't think I would have figured out on my own. It was also helpful getting hints and tips from others that were in the class. Besides, it was two hours of ME time a week!

I took course 1 and am waiting to take class 2. I don't think that I could have gotten as much out of it if I had tried to teach myself from the book.

I took courses 1 and 2. I planned on taking the 3rd course but it was cancelled and never rescheduled. I got tired of waiting around so I just taught myself most of the stuff from the 3rd course now. But I am happy that i took the first two anyway. The classes arent that expensive anyway if you have all of the tools already, or you are planning to buy them anyway. I'd take it if you have the time.

I took all three courses plus a bonus wedding cake and catering class. It was all well worth the time and money. You learn so much more than just what is in the book. We didnt even use the books for the 2nd and 3rd classes. We used the older class books that they dont make anymore. They have more stuff in them. I would NEVER try to teach myself how to make those flowers you learn in class 2 on my own. I had a hard enough time learning them in class with an instructor standing there helping me. Id never have figured it out at home on my own.

I learn better by actually seeing it done so the classes were great for me. I had tried learning to make flowers from the online tutorials and could not get it, now I am much better! Also, you learn a lot from the others in the class and the instructor! Tricks that will save you time and money hopefully!

i enjoyed the 3 courses and like darandon it was ME time. The flowers in course 2 are kind of difficult if you are trying them on your own. its great to have someone experienced there telling you what you can do differently or to tell you that its perfect. i also learn better when i actually see it being done so it was great for me. I think you should definately take them.

I have never ever taken a Wilton Class or any cake decor in my life..I have taken baking classes, but not decorating. Everything I know is self taught. I do lot of reading and trials and error.
I have been wanting to, but the schedule does not agree w/ mine.
I wanted Saturday classes, but it seems impossible in my area.
I can decorate cakes , but I know there are things that I might have no knowledge of, or probably areas I need polishing...

I would say, if this is an opportunity, go for it. icon_smile.gif

Take the class I knew nothing about cake decorating when I took course 1 and the books I think are not as useful as your instructor will be there is lots of questions even after spending a week reading the book that you get in class and it's only going to get more complicated with all the flowers you'll learn in course 2 , you really need an instructor to show how to do everything in the book at least that's how I felt, I'm glad I took the classes I can't wait to get better!!!!!!!!!

I'm taking Course II right now and I'm really getting alot out of it. I can't wait till III, but it's not till Feb. 07 icon_cry.gif

I work in a bakery and have a good base knowledge of decorating, but we don't do alot of the different flowers, work with royal icing, color flows etc...

I have to drive 45 minutes to get there and don't make it home till almost 10pm, but it's worth it to me. K'ly ^,,^

I would definately recommend the Wilton classes. Course 2 shows you alot of the different flowers. Some are easier than others. I work better by seeing how things are done first and then doing it and seeing the instructor really paid off.
