Article from TMZ.com... My Big Fat French Wedding
Posted Jul 6th 2007 7:01PM by TMZ Staff

There's nothing desperate about Eva Longoria & Tony Parker's wedding this weekend in Paris. Rumors are that the pint-sized beauty's $30,000 wedding cake was going to be made by chef Sam Godfrey of Perfect Endings, who made the cake for Oprah's 50th. Rather than fly the cake from Napa Valley to Paris, Tony put his spur down and demanded the cake be made in France! Enough dough!

WHAT!!!! 30K?!?!?!?!

I believe I saw on Sugar Rush that Margaret Bruan's cakes can be as expensive as $25,000. I almost fell over!

$30,000?? That is crazy!

My wedding cake was $300, and after learning al lot more about cake decoratingsince then, I still wouldn't change a thing. It was a beautiful 3 layer cake for 100 with lace fondant and gumpaste flowers. We got a really good deal because the decorator didn't get to work with gumpaste and fondant in our area very much and wanted to do it so much.

I can't imagine what a $30,000 cake looks like. What does it have gemstones on it? 24K Gold foil? Fondant with real platinum made into luster dust?

$30,000... my WHOLE wedding didn't cost anywhere near that much!!! I wish they had given that money to a good charity instead! I love cakes but that's ridiculous!

Can you imagine someone who is crazy enough to pay that kind of money for a cake. There is something wrong with this picture. I would love to see this cake.

Boy oh boy, I'd be one nervous cake maker if I knew that was the price. That cake had better be not only gorgeous beyond compare but the most delectable thing they've ever tasted. Can you imagine how embarrassing it would be to have people not finish a slice?

And, I too would rather see that money go to charity. It's just obscene to pay that much for some flour, sugar, eggs, butter, etc. Unreal!!!

I never understand why people pay such ridiculous prices, there comes a point where you are just paying for the name and are not getting anything extra for your money.... 30K... wow.... icon_confused.gificon_confused.gificon_confused.gif

outrageous for an ordinary person? sure but I guess it depends on whether you have the money for this type of stuff. who are we to say how they should spend their money?

I think I could FORCE myself to bake a cake if someone wanted to pay me $30K icon_lol.gif I just think the people who have more money than they can spend think the more they pay for the cake the better it will taste. I would love to see the picture of the cake...but I bet it wouldn't taste as good as one of ours thumbs_up.gif

I have to chuckle at this. Funny how perspective changes huh? Don't people say the same things to and about us regarding cake ex: "That much $$ just for a cake?" but we feel that our time/ingredients/expertise is worth it. Now this cake is a too much money to some but apparently for others it's not. Same with our customers. No difference other than the price tag! icon_biggrin.gif

Yah, a whole nother world! I just dont understand how most people barely get by and then their are others that are overpaid. The cake probably is going to be gaudy as hell and not worth the money. Just the baker knows he can get it from this couple so he will charge it. Must be nice!

OMG that is a ton of money!!!

But am I the only one that read he went there to bake it? I am sure that $ also paid for his flight and room plus that of whatever staff he needed. So when you add that all in the price for the cake really isn't that much. But I could be totaly off and that was JUST for the cake. lol Who knows.

That is a great point. You are very right some of that money probally did go to flights for himself and his staff, as well as hotel accomidations, kitchen accomidations, etc etc etc...when you put it like that it seems much more reasonable...well I am not sure "reasonable" is the right word but not nearly as outlandish.

You think? I bet it wasnt. I bet the cake itself was that much and that didnt include the airfare, etc. This guy did Opera's cake for her 50th birthday so he is in demand. Im sure he had a ton of cakes to do for the date of 7-7-7 and he charged $30,000 to make up what he was going to lose from not being at his bakery!

I can't blame the baker for taking 30K -- I mean who wouldn't! Whatever the reason -- the flight, etc. or because he's making up for lost business on that day, BUT --

what I can't get past is the couple paying that much! Someone said earlier that it's all relative based on how much $$$ we have/make, etc., but what isn't relative is the fact that the price makes a statement about what's important to them. Obviously, putting on a show is -- not how well that money could be used to help others or to be put to more constructive uses in their lives.

I mean this sincerely, if I ever have that much money, I can guarantee that I wouldn't spend 30K on a cake. A CAKE!!! It's ostentatious, wasteful, overly-extravagant, and self-agrandizing. Frankly, I would be embarrassed to have something like that at my wedding.
