Thank you! This is a great tip. I work with glass, specifically pate de verre or paste of glass and using the pastry bags can get very, very messy. I am looking forward to trying this idea with my techniques!

I've never seen the plastic wrap technique before. When I learned, my instructor said to take an empty Pringles can and fold the ends of the pastry bag over that. The can held the bag so we could fill it without incident. No mess, no fuss! icon_biggrin.gif

OMG...I think that is the most awsome thing I have ever heard......you better believe I will be trying that tonight...................thank you so much for the tip..... After all, the thing I dread the most is when you run out of frosting and you have to reopen the piping beg and refill......that is always a mess................
Thanks again

I tried this tip last night. Maybe I'm missing the boat. When I put the "plug" or "bullit" in the bag, there wasn't enough or I could not grab the plastic to pull through the coupler. So the coupler was filled with my icing and about 1 inch up from the coupler. So if I wanted to switch colors using the same bag, I couldn't with the red icing at the bottom of the bag and coupler.

How do you grab the plastic when the coupler's on??

Great idea...but still need a little help.

Thanks,
Michele

Step 1. Take a piece of plastic wrap about 8"-10" long. With a spatula, take a bit of frosting and place it in the center 1" away from the edge. (Pic 1)

Step 2. Take one side of the plastic wrap and fold it over to the next side matching up the edge - your frosting will now be enclosed on the side of the plastic wrap (Pic 2)

Step 3. Roll the plastic from where the frosting is to the edges (Pics 3 & 4)

Step 4: Twist the free end of the wrap (pic 5)

Step 5 (or 6 if you follow the optional "tie off"): You can now insert the plastic "tube" of icing into the decorating bag. (pic 7)

Just wanted to share. I think it's a pretty cool way to get the frosting in the bag and it isn't that messy either. Plus it makes switching frosting in and out so simple - if you're careful enough you won't have any transfer colour either.

How far at the bottom do you go with the icing looks like its too long for the bag at the bottom Thanks

Wow!!! What a great tip. I cant wait to try it.
Another tip our instructor gave us was to store our bags of powdered sugar in the freezer. It helps cut way down on the "dusting" effect when pouring in mixer. I have tried it and it works really well for me, my freezer is full of PS. thumbs_up.gif

My instructor told me about this as well. I never tried it because I wasn't really sure what to do. Thanks to your pics, I tried it this evening and I am so amazed. I will never just use a regular bag again. It was so so easy to use multiple colors without having to use a million bags. You are awesome. Thanks thumbs_up.gif
