I am getting a request for my first fondant covered wedding cake and I don't know how much extra I should charge per serving. I want to point out that I will use MMF, so it will not be THAT expensive, but it's a lot of work, so how much should I add per serving? Any ideas? Please, please! Thanks in advance!!

I normally charge $2 per serving with basic buttercream, $2.50 for fondant.

What size is the wedding cake -- how many tiers and what size? Is it just MMF covered cake with MMF decorations?

We need a little more info.

ALso, where do you live? Sometimes price is determined by location, like what someone would pay in NY, they wouldn't pay where I live in KY.

Thank you JoAnn, can I ask what part of the country you are in? Because I am in the midwest (Iowa) and can't charge as much as someone in Chicago, or another big city. But I like your ratio on prices... about another 50 cents per serving is what I was thinking would be appropriate. Thanks so much for replying!

As far as the cake... 12", 10", 8", 6" stacked, covered in MMF, the 'quilted' look with some edible pearls and luster dust is what she wants. She showed me a picture of the cake she is in love with and that's what I will try to do. It's not super hard like tons of fondant flowers or anything. Actually, no flowers I think. Just the topper which is a large fondant bow. (Could use the premade wilton one.) I was just mentioning before I saw your post that I am in Iowa (Quad Cities Ia./Il. area) so I know I have to be reasonable. I can't get $4 a serving for a simple cake here! (I WISH!!) icon_lol.gif

I live about an hour and a half outside the DC metro area (where prices are VERY high) and when I bought my wedding cake from a woman like a lot of us on CC (home baking business) she said she'd charge me an extra $1 per slice for fondant, I think that's fair because it IS a lot of work. On the other hand, smoothing all that icing is a lot of work too! I ultimately paid $4 per slice for a 4 tier, torted and filled, covered in butter cream with some lace fondant decorations and covered with gumpaste flowers. It was a really pretty cake. HTH!
