I just needed to get that out. This was my first attempt at red MMF and I hated it. It was for my 4th of July cake (in my pics). Is there any easy way to get that color? I tried making it four times before I finally gave up and ended up with this red/maroon color. Can't imagine trying the black MMF!

Thanks darcat! I tried the yellow, orange, red thing and I got a beautiful dark orange but never red. Maybe I did something wrong.

whenever I make colored MMF I color the melted marshmallows BEFORE adding the PS. It is a lot let work and adding the PS doesn't change the color of the melted marshamallows.

Thank you Leily! I'll give that a shot. What red do you use? I have all the wilton reds. I have read here that americolor is the way to go but unfortunately I do not have a credit card to order online and there are no places where I live that carry this.

I understand i tried to make red for my fire truck i gave up when i Practicely empty my bottle and my mmf was a super pink color. i went out the next day and brought the wilton color spray. I couple of day's later i found a post telling you how to color the marshmallows first .

I used to use the Wilton No taste red until I used it all up then I switched to americolor. I think I still have a little wilton reds left but I use those for pastels or lighter colors. I have had great luck with Americolor myself.

It is a lot easier to tint the melted marshmallows than knead in the color, but it still does seem to take quite a bit.

The other bonus with this (and I found this out with the black I did for a cake in my photos) is that coloring the marshmallows first allows you to add in more PS so you can still control the consistency of your MMF, unlike coloring the MMF after mixed.

I guess I just need to work on getting a credit card instead of spending all my money on the wilton colors and go Americolor all the way. Thanks again for the advice leily

4 star,
have you thought about getting one of them there prepaid visa cards they have at wallymart? Online stores accept those or even you can open a paypal account for online purchases from online stores that take paypal. It's worth a shot hun.

i think places like rite aid sells those credit card things kind of like the walmart gift cards where you can add $ on it. it allows you the use of a credit card but you can only spend as much as you've put on it. capitol one has a service like that too

not a problem, glad I can help someone else.

As for the credit card you don't have to have one. Cake Central accepts paypal so you can set that up with your checking or savings account.

Also check with your bank if they have a debit card. I have one that is linked directly to my accounts but I run it through at the store like a credit card. So I don't have to worry about trying to find a place that accepts debit since it is not everywhere, but Everyone seems to accept credit cards.

Just some food for thought.

Shoot fire! I just add a drop of black, it gives the red a real rich color - never had any trouble and I use MMF for EVERYTHING I create! No kidding - a tiny bit of black does wonders. I kid you not!!!!!!!!!

Thank you ALL for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of getting one of those cards or even a debit card. Paypal is also a great idea. I think I see Americolor being delivered to my door in the near future. YAY!

It took me two tried to get red mmf. I used americolor added to melted mm's. But I did not add any additional water to the recipe because it will just be too sticky. I might have to try the koolaid trick sometime.
