I tried royal icing and rolled butter cream for my cookies, and I wasn't very happy with them. The RI tasted ok, it's just that it dried like concrete, and the RBC - just was not good at all - IMO. I don't know if I did something wrong or what. Anyway I was need some advise from the experts

I really don't feel like wasting time and $$$$ if it isn't
Over the years I've used a recipe (I guess you can call it that) that my mom has used for years. It is great to taste, I can't do any fancy work with it. It just isn't stable enough.
