I have been burned in the past on starting a wedding cake without a deposit and then the wedding was cancelled. Does anyone have an example of a contact between and bride and a cake decorator? How do I word the contact and what would be a good deposit (half) - Non-refundable. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I have done a few courses on law, contract law was included. I would do a contract and include the deposit amount(half sounds fair). You may also want to put in it that the amount to be paid in full on completion. You can add other stuff too, like if the wedding is cancelled, without you starting the cake, deposit to be refunded, if started non-refundable. Also include wedding date, time and place, bride and groom names and numbers, any changes to be made by a certain date etc.
Good luck
Oh both you and them need to sign and have an independent witness.

I would Also Include a Supply list of Things to be Returned to You, As maybe you can reuse them or even if you rent some of the things, You would be out More Money if you had to Replace them, I also ALWAYS tell the family in Advance that they need to ask someone in Advance to Cut the cake after Bride and Groom have gotten their 1st slice out. & to show them how to cut it. & to take it apart if tiered. because it could Fall. Just try to cover your bases and your butt..
good luck!
