Does anyone know if the candy wafers CK product sells under their name is Merckens?
Thanks,
Sharon
Are you talking about countrykitchensa.com? If so, then yes, the candy melts they sell are Merckens. The description under each picture says Merckens.
If you're talking about ckproducts.com, then I believe only the products that specifically say "Merckens" are actually Merckens.
HTH!

Yes, I'm talking about countrykitchensa.com. I received my order from them the other day. I had ordered Merckens and what I got was packaged in CK Products bags. I spoke to countrykitchensa.com and they said it was Merckens, that's the way it's packaged, but I have my doubts about it. I didn't see Merckens name any where on the bag.

That does seem strange that Merckens isn't anywhere on the packaging. I would think Merckens wouldn't be very happy to know that. I don't know what to tell you .... Country Kitchen SA's website lists only Merckens products (and a few Peter's, but those are more expensive), so I would hope that's what they're actually selling.

I have found out that Merckens is packaged with the CK name. I did find a place that sells it cheaper. http://www.streichs.com/cgi-bin/streichs/index.html?bread_reset=1

I just received a response from a company I'll leave nameless. "CK Products packages Merckens in their own printed bags. It's Merckens only if it says so on the bag." It looks like I didn't receive what I paid for.

The cake supply stores around here package the chocolate in their own bags, and label it Merkens. I'm guessing that they buy in super bulk and split it up into their own bags?
I hope?
Yes, I did complain to CK and the haven't responded. They also buy in bulk and put it in their own bags, but they are supposed to label it with the brand of chocolate. My son in-law is in the food business and spoke to him about this last night. He also said they are supposed to label the bags with the brand they are using. If they weren't labeled it was probably what they sell as their own brand. Learn something new everyday!

First of all thanx for the site. Secondly Merkens is a great product for what it is. It is not chocolate but summer or candy coating. If you go to Streich's site they explain this to your. For instance. this is great stuff for molding but to make great truffles or great candy you need real chocolate. If you use something like Merkens you will have good candy but not great. There is a place where this is good to use but not in real baking. Sorry, just my not so humble opinion. Since it is getting almost as expensive as some of the good choc. why notopt for that?
I use the Merckens cocoa dark melts to coat my chocolate covered strawberries and buckeyes, and people go nuts over them. So, I think they may be better than the "good quality" chocolate for those purposes because they melt so nicely and coat so well, plus they do not need to be tempered. JMO.
Yes, I agree with you Jess. I should have said that there are times when Merkens is the best to choose depending on what' needed. And if you add a little bit of Paramount Crystals in it or Crisco it seems to make it easier to coat with. have you found that?
I've never tried adding Crisco or Paramount Crystals (what are these?) ... maybe I will try that next time. Thanks for the tip!
