Sorry ladies, but I have to whine. We were having an anniversary party for my parents last night (49 yrs). It was only immediate family so not to many people. I made the cake last week and had it in the freezer then took it out Sunday night and started frosting it. It was only a 13x9 cake so not to big but it was chocolate and I had to crum coat a couple of times. It took me about 3 hours to crum coat and try to get it smooth. I am still new to decorating so I work a little slower. I still couldn't get the corners to look like corners. I did the bottom border but didn't want to decorate all of it because I was putting an edible image (a wedding photo) on it and I didn't know if I could do that 24 hours in advance. After I came home from work Monday afternoon I finished cake and was pretty pleased on how it turned out. We went to my parents house and about the time we sat down to dinner it started storming and out went the lights. We did manage to find a few candles and flashlights but I really wanted the lights to come on so they could see their cake. But NOOOO, so about 8:00pm I tried to show my mom the cake and I think she could see it but my dad couldn't see it at all no matter how many candles or flashlights. He is 96 and has macular degeneration. I was so bummed that when I went home I cried. I did take a couple of pictures of it so when I get them developed I will show him and tell him what it was. I will also try to post the picture when my daughter is able to help me. Well at least with all the candles we set the mood. Thanks for listening I feel a little better now.

Im so sorry they didnt get to really "See" all your hard work. This has never happened to me but I can only imagine I would go home and cry also. Just the thought of all your hard work and no one really seing it makes me sad icon_cry.gif Even though no one saw it I'm sure it was beautiful. Be sure to post pictures so at least everyone here can see. Im bet your parents are glad they have such a thoughtful daughter who would take the time do make them a precious gift.

ebwmom,

I am sorry that your cake couldn't be seen....but here is a funny story that might make you feel better....

I was making a cake (last minute order) for an engagement party, and I was working hard to meet the deadline, as I only got the order when another baker backed out on the couple. As luck would have it, there was a bad storm, and the lights went out. RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY FROSTING AND DECORATING! I was soooo stressed that I wouldn't get the lights back on, so I decorated by candlelight and Coleman lantern. Fortunately, the lighting wasn't bad enough to affect the outcome, but it COULD have been! For a while, I panicked every time I started a cake when there was a storm or rain in the forecast! Haha....but the clincher is this.....we joked about the fate of the couple, with all the bad luck they had had with the cake. When they got married, they were in a reception hall a few hundred miles away, and a cake maker there made their wedding cake. I think it was a resort or something like that.....anyway, the bride ate some of the cake and got really ill that night...but only HER. Long story short, she had somehow gotten a tiny sliver of glass in her piece, and it had made her sick. All turned out well for her....but I told them BOTH....WHATEVER YOU DO, choose ice cream or some other dessert if you ever have another celebration! (all joking, of course!)...
