I'm looking for the world's best brownie recipe. There are thousands of variations. I want an intense chocolate flavor while also being fudgy and gooey.
OMG...Do I have the recipe for you!!!! My 8 year old son calls these "Brownies from Scrap" (he means scratch!) He takes these every year for his birthday celebration at school...he would rather have these than a decorated bday cake from me!
You used to be able to find it on the back of Hershey's cocoa, but I haven't seen it in a long time...luckily, I saved the recipe!
Here goes:
1 C butter (I don't use margarine)
2 C sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
4 eggs
3/4 C Hershey's cocoa
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
(1 C nuts optional...I don't)
Not in recipe, but we like to add:
**1 small bag chocolate chips (we have tried other chips: white choc, butterscotch, peanut butter, mint chips, m&ms...be creative)
1--Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9 x 13 pan.
2--Microwave butter in large bowl for 2 min or until melted.
3--Stir in sugar and vanilla.
4--Add eggs one at a time beating well with spoon, after each addition.
5--Add flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Beat well until blended.
6--Stir in nuts or flavored chips
7--Bake 25-30 minutes. Cool completely. Makes about 36 brownies.
**Do NOT overbake these! I get phone calls about the recipe for these. They are gooey and rich and absolutely scrumptious!
Sometimes we ice with butter icing (butter, milk powdered sugar) for something a little different. I get rave reviews either way!
Let me know what you think...Happy baking!
This is the recipe I use and I love it. I got it off of kicked-up-cookie-recipes.com
1/2 cup (1/4 lb.) butter or margarine, cut into chunks
2/3 cup of chopped milk chocolate
3/4 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of one of the following optional choices: chopped walnuts or almonds, chopped semisweet or white chocolate, or semisweet or white chocolate baking bits.
In a 2- to 3-quart pan over low heat, combine butter and unsweetened chocolate; when ingredients begin to soften, stir until melted and blended. Remove from heat; add sugar, eggs, and vanilla and mix well. Add flour and mix well.
Butter an 8-inch square or round baking pan. Scrape batter into pan and spread evenly; sprinkle with nuts. Bake in a 350F oven until brownie feels firm at edges and springs back in center when gently pressed, about 30 minutes. Let cool in pan on rack. To frost, pour fudge sauce over brownie and spread evenly. Serve, or cover and store at room temperature up to 2 days. Cut into 6 or 9 squares or wedges. Makes 6 or 9 servings.
Fudge sauce. In a 1- to 2-quart pan over low heat, combine 1/3 cup whipping cream and 1 cup (6 oz.) chopped semisweet or milk chocolate or semisweet or milk chocolate baking bits; stir until chocolate is melted. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla or 2 tablespoons mint-flavored liqueur or rum. Use warm as a sauce. To frost brownies (preceding), let sauce cool until thick enough to spread, about 1 hour. Makes about 3/4 cup.
