Well this exciting and some of you may already know from one of my former posts but...I am the proud new owner of an established pastry shop! I feel like I have had another child...lol! Some have requested more info and had questions for me that I would love to answer. For some strange reason I never get tired of talking about it!
My Hubbsie and I were enjoying a romantic dinner at one of our area's finer restaurants. The restaurant is chef owned and the chef personally comes to your table at the end of the meal to thank you for your patronage. His wife is a minor celebrity in this area because of her well known goodies, her shop supplies most of the upper scale restaurants with their desserts and makes cakes and yummies that are no less than outstanding. So much so that her shop has been granted the wonderfully flattering honor of being an editors pick in the prestigious Best of NH list. Ok so back to our romantic dinner, we were just finishing our meal with yet another to die for dessert when the chef comes to the table behind us. Clearly he knew these people personally and began telling them how he and his wife were retiring and get this SELLING THEIR BUSINESSES!!! I almost choked on my lemon mascarpone cheesecake! Both my self and surprisingly my husband perked up and started getting real fidgety. When the chef came to our table I just launched in on him, who? what? when? where? The next day we found our self touring and viewing all the equipment, client lists, recipes etc etc etc that came with the sale of this shop. I was so excited I felt like a well, like a kid in a pastry shop. After going through a few songs and dances with banks a few ups and downs to the point where we thought it wasn't going to pan out and I'd have to start my own shop from "scratch", as it were, we put our deposit down got the papers signed and our closing is scheduled. In the mean time I have been working with the dessert goddess her self as her protégé. They were very generous in their asking price and inclusions, even going as far as getting written contracts from their restaurant clients agreeing to stay on with my shop once ownership has been transferred. Their reason for being so generous? When asked she simply told meThis is my baby, I want my baby to go to someone who truly loves what they do. Your enthusiasm and passion shows me that you are the right person for my baby. The true tell that this was meant to bemy Hubbie has been so supportive that it is almost scary.
So yesterday was my first shop deliveries, one was a wedding cake on top of a mountain. Probably the scariest 5 min drive of my life. The next was a party that was being managed by an event planner that our shop does frequent business with; this party had a caterer handling the food. In a manner of about three minutes this caterer was handing me their business card and letting me know that they are interested in having all their desserts supplied by our shop. Insanity I know but it really can happen that fast.
This shop is currently being run from a commercial kitchen that was built off the side of her home. In September it will be moved into a brand new commercial kitchen that is under construction in my home. This kitchen/shop is separate and apart form the living space and home kitchen. I have been getting all the permits in place and working with the contractors, its very exciting and it all happened so fast. This began in late may, here were are in early July and things are in full swing.
So that is the BIG, SUPER HUGE, MASSIVLY LARGE news in my life right now. Thanks for taking the time to read about the excitement!

I know I'm new to CC but i just want to wish you CONGRATULATIONS!! I won't say Good Luck because you are doing what you love and it's going to be a fantastic ride.
I am hoping one day not too far away I'll be able to open my own shop. Congratulations once again.
Thank you so much everyone!! I will post pics just as soon as I have something other than a bunch of 2 x 4 frames to show you. Right now I am afraid it's not very pretty. I was thinking of going with a victorian/ parisan theme in the customer area maybe with alternating light and dark pink stripes, black and white photos of paris perhaps? I am not sure yet. Our projected move in date is currently labor day weekend, so lots to do with little time. I am so glad I have 2 assitants and a dishwasher who want to stay on, I am going to need them
Peeps..wow small world huh..I will do ya proud I promise, when you visit do you find your self by the Lake Winnepausakeee area? I'd love for you to stop by.
Odessa.. shops closed today but you are so right, so far I have not been to the gym in like 2 weeks, Hubbs has been doing all the laundry, and we are interviewing housekeeprs because there is just no way. Not to mention the fact that currently I am a 2nd term senior in college with 5 classes left to obatin my Batchelors in Business mgmt...just finshed finals last week for my last semester...very ugly .
Sponge,
You are in a beautiful area! My husband and I almost got married in your area on the Mt. Washington Boat...But, we opted for a wedding in Sunset Beach, NC instead. We have yet to bring our kids to the Lakes region, but were hoping to take them this summer. Long story, but looks like we won't make it up north til the fall. Hopefully we'll visit your "neck of the woods!"
Your colors and theme seem great too!
Wow! Congratulations! You must be on cloud 9...and scarey too at the same time..I bet its hard to believe, I'm very happy for you and wish you the best in your new business and its such a blessing your hubby is so supportive of you...congrats
Thank you so much. It is very exciting and the only thing that is keeping me on cloud 8 rather than 9 is the fact that I am a bit scared and somewhat overwhelmed. It has all happed so fast one day I was a stay at home mom, and full time college "kid". The next day I am a full on business owner and boss, and a mom and a college kid...nuts! To be honest it scares me to death but I am just rolling with the flow and seeing where this river takes me...hopefully I don't hit any rocks
I do however feel very blessed that I was granted this oppurtunity, and couldn't ask for better people to do business with, this couple is truly the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. They also are old hats at helping people realize their dreams of becoming resturant owners. So needless to say I am a very blessed lady who recognizes that she has much to be thankful for. Someday I will be in a position to "pay it forward" and I can not wait for that day.
Oh... I forgot to say that it looks like you'll be trading the sweatpants for an apron!
hehehe bought my first pair of "so ugly you have to love em" chef's pants the other day actually
spongemomchefpants has a nice ring to it wouldn't you say?
Well a big ol' Congratulations (again) and thanks for sharing your story with us!!!!!! Best of luck! Can't wait to see some photos.
A huge congrats to you! I just opened my cake & cookie shop on June 16th, so I know exactly how you feel. Overwhelmed, scared, and totally excited!! LOL Best wishes for many tasty treats!
