Just want to make sure I don't mess them up, making bouquets for my mom and sister. Once I make Antonia's RI what do I put them in piping bags or bottles? And do you use the same color as you would buttercream icing? And then after you make the outline, how much warm water do you add to fill in? Thanks!

You can use either bags or bottles. I prefer to use parchment bags if I'm doing small areas or just using a small amount of a color, or bottles if I'm using a lot of the color. I have the squeezit bottles that I can use my Wilton tips on, and it makes it easier for doing a large amount.

Use the gel colors (Wilton, Americolor, whatever you have and want to use).

The amount of water you add will depend on the consistency of the icing and the humidity. Sometimes when I make a batch I need to add nearly a cup of water, other times just a couple of tablespoons.

The best way to judge the consistency for flooding is to see how long it takes for the icing to smooth out in the bowl after you run a spoon through to make a valley.

I think Antonia probably describes that much better than I did in her tutorial, LOL!

To make the colors and thin the icing, I put what I think I'll need in a bowl, stir in the color, and then add water, a little at a time, until it's thin enough. I just take a spoon and drizzle a few lines of icing back and forth next to each other (similar to the way I fill in the outline) and if it blends back to a smooth surface in a few seconds, I know it's ready.

If you have any other questions, just ask!

I've bought them at sugarcraft and also at cincinnati cake and candy. I know you can order online from both of those places, although they're local for me so I just stop in.

There are other places you can order them also.

Here's a link to the page with the picture. This is for the 2 oz bottle (2 pack) and they also come in an 8 oz size, which is great if you are flooding a lot of cookies in the same color.

Princess, you'll do fine!

Take pictures along the way, and if they're not turning out the way you like, post the pictures and we can help with troubleshooting.

Just take your time, and have fun with it!

I want those bottles with tips!!! So cool.

I used a medicine dropper to drop a few drops of water into my icing to thin it yesterday. I was working with small bowls of icing for many different colors. I hate to over-thin the icing then have to re-thicken it.

Please post pix. Trial and error (and help from nice bakers on CC) is how we all learn this stuff!
