Hi,
I've done cake decorating, but never cookies. My kids are at a school that requires either cupcakes or cookies for birthday class parties. I saw a really cute idea to present flower-shaped cookies as a bouquet in a wheel barrel. The question is: What is the proper way to decorate the flower cookies? Help icon_cry.gif

you can try this:

1. make the fondant as your base for decorating the cookies and;

2. use buttercream for adding up some details.

if you want check my photos, i have a pic there of the recent cookies I made. Hope this helps...

You can decorate your cookies with fondant and add details with royal icing, or just with royal icing.

Read Anotnias's tutorial, you'll find all the information there on how to decorate with royal:
http://www.cakecentral.com/article54-How-To-Bake--Decorate-Cookies.html

Attach lollipop sticks to your cookies before baking or after baking using candy melts or royal icing.

You'll find wonderful desings for your cookies here:

Check out Antonia's tutorial in the articles section "How to bake and decorate cookies" I always thought I knew all there was about cookies but read the article and found it very helpful, lots of tricks I never heard of. Good luck icon_biggrin.gif

I found Antonia's article this morning. I am so thankful there are people who like to share their knowledge. I also checked out the flourpot website. It had some great ideas.

Cookie decorating is new to me, and I tend to over-research everything before I try it. Thanks, everyone, for the tips and sources! I finished baking yesterday's cookies, and am ready to try icing them tonight, if the rain will clear up, that is. I don't know about you all, but the humidity tends to play havoc with my icing.

Mala,

What buttercream do you use that hardens on a cookie? And how long does it take to really harden?

Thanks,
Kel

I've made 1 batch of decorated cookies. I used the Blue Ribbon sugar cookies with royal icing. They taste really good, but the decorating needs more work, so I baked another batch of cookies, this time the No Fail recipe...Oh my goodness, there went the waist line! The NF's are awesome, even without icing. I had a few cookies break last night. I was too tired, they were too warm...oh well, the kids got to take a sample in their lunches today. I guess I get to spend school hours decorating. I know, poor poor me. (lol)
