Writing a business plan is driving me bonkers!!!

I'm just wondering how one does the Industry research for a business plan. More so with competition analysis as the "competition" doesn't want to share their information. If anyone has any ideas as to how to approach competition please let me know.

This sounds horrible but when I was starting out I had friends to call other caterers and bakers and get prices on wedding cakes etc. They didn't make false orders or anything they would just tell them after getting prices that they would get back with them later if interested.

And since I opened I have had other people that I KNOW are from other businesses come in and check me out...it is just human I guess. I am polite to them and answer all questions.
