Hi Aussie friends,

Thomas b'day is coming up in a couple of months. it's time for me to think about his cake (using fondant). I need to buy a few tools ie. FoodWriters' pen (for writing words), fondant ribbon cutter/embosser and also colours for fondant and the actual fondant itself.

Do you know where I can get these (i'm in sydney). Since I can't drive, and the only store I know is Iced Affairs in camperdown and it takes me ages to get there on buses and i don't relly fancy carrying a 3kg fondant home on the bus! ), is there a online place in NSW or anywhere on east coast, where i can order these things from? How reliable are they?

what's the best fondant to use? I can only find The brand form supermarket (gosh, forgotten the name). Wished they sell ready coloured fondant here (I have only seen black, brown, white and in small jars - green, red). it takes a long time to colour those fondant.

Someone posted a list a while back but I can't remember what i have done to that list.

I'd appreciate your help. thanks!!!!!!!

Hi aizuodangao,

I am in coffs and it is soooo hard to get any cake stuff here except for a couple of bits and pieces from spotlight (limited range and pricey) and tiny range at the local bakery but I have used Suzie Q in Melbourne http://www.susie-qcake.com.au/ their website isn't the greatest (ie. it doesn't list all the items or have pics of them) but if ring them up and tell them what you want they are generally pretty helpful. The times I have used them I have been in a hurry for the stuff and paid extra to get it express posted so I got the stuff fast not sure how long it would take normally.

I have also been to Bakery Sugarcraft when in Sydney one time (not sure which part of Sydney you are in) they are in Wetherill Park http://www.bakerysugarcraft.com.au/ I was a little disappinted at the shop but was told later that apparently they have heaps of stuff out the back but you have to ask about it ,but they also do online I haven't ordered anything through the online part though.

Cake Deco http://www.cakedeco.com.au/ is another one in Melbourne does onlin but I haven't tried them yet.

I only have used cakedeco and bakerysugarcraft for online orders. they have most of what you need between them.
The only other option I use is ebay australia. Casey's attic auctions sell quite a bit of cake decorating stuff.
Good luck!

I agree with all the members - ebay is great as too is bakerysugarcraft. I have also found that my local spotlight sells lots of things as well.

Good luck finding it all.

Thanks everyone. my local spotlight store has some decorations stuff but no fondant or any good tools.

I will check those links you suggested. Wouldn't mind having a few more store names though so please keep posting. thanks a lot for your help!

hello fellow aussies

i have used cakedeco and bakery sugarcaft and find them both to be excellent to order from online.

ebay is great, as some one suggested

but have you thought about making your own fondant, like the mmf fondant posted here, its easy to make and tastes great, you can color it once the marshmellows have melted before you add the icing sugar which is so much easier than kneading the color in later.

Hi,
Don't know whether your still looking for icing but orchard icing is the one you get in the supermarket and you can buy it in Ivory, red, green chocolate and white chocolate at www.orchardicing.com the other brand is pettinice both these are available at any cake dec shop.

Cupid's Cake Decorations (Newcastle) does mail orders www.cupids.idl.com.au I've used their shop but not their mail order. Sugarcraft at Orange do phone and mail orders but don't have a website Chris is lovely and very helpful Phone (02) 63613434.

Hope I've been of some help.
