Hey everyone! A co-worker of mine is having a baby and I'd like to make her a pregnant belly cake. Would anyone happen to have a tutorial for this? IT would be really appreciated. I can't for the life of me, figure out how some of you have done it and then put it on top of a sheet cake. PLEASE someone, let me know!

Sorry....no tutorial on it..But I have done one...and I used 2 wonder molds (mini) for the top and the soccer ball for the belly....You can use the sports ball one too...Think that would be better..and i just draped the fondant over....If you have any questions let me know..mine is in my pictures...Thanks, Nicole

I used the sports ball pan for the belly and the mini ball pan for the breasts. For the dress I used MMF and I cut it out in two parts. 1st part going over the belly and then I cut a 2nd piece for bodice. I then cut a strip of fondant as a "waist band" and this covers the seam of the two pieces. Picture is in my photos.

Thanks to both of you ladies. Any idea how I would do one and put it on top of a sheet cake?

same here, mine is also on a 9x13. I have put the belly cake on a cardboard circle for easy removal from the sheet cake. I did not use dowels as the belly is not overly heavy. The breasts I just set directly on the cake.

And then do you put the fondant on the breasts and belly after it is on the sheet cake or before? Sorry to bother you ladies so much, I just want to get this right. Thanks in advance!

No problem.....I ask tons of questions for everything..hehe.

I put it on too....on a board(well the belly...the top I didn't) Then I kinda tried to measure across the belly....with a ruler...and then i rolled out the fondant and tried to go by that....I had my husband there to help me put on the cake....then I trimmed the acess off ....while he held it up...so, it didnt' touch the cake.
I didn't put dowells either.
But if you feel more comfortable putting the dress on before I am sure you can.....Just be careful when you put it on the slab....so the dress doesn't fold.

Kellyanne,
Sorry took so long to reply, was working on a cake all day. I too put the dress and bodice on after I had the cakes on the sheet cake. Like Nicole, I measured approximately the size I would need and then layed it on. I also put a layer of buttercream over the belly and breasts and let that crust before I added the fondant dress. In letting it crust enough, if my dress wasn't quite the right size, it allowed me to carefully take it back off and trim excess. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you want!! that is the beauty of this site!!!!

Hey... I used an 11X 15 for the bottom of my cake.. i used cupcakes for the breast and a half of the ball cake pan.. I just placed the belly onto the cake.. (not iced yet) and then I stuck a wooden dowel down the center (just always worried something is going to slip off!) then i placed my cupcakes onto the cake.. (wooden dowels down the center again! LOL) then I iced the whole thing all at once.. (doing the crumb coat first). once I had it crumb coated..I started carving at the belly and the breast.. to try to give them a more realistic look.. I then did a final coat of buttercream..(not being to perfect with the belly and breast being I'm going to cover them anyway). I started with the belly down first. I rolled out the fondant.. The second pic gives you an idea on how I cut out the fondant.. measure around your belly and start from there..
Once you have your piece layed onto the cake.. using scissors cut off what you dont want. and start pinching the fondant at the top of the belly to get the pleaded look.. for the top pieces, same thing...measure, cutting ,placing on cake and cutting with scissors..
and again at the bottom of the breast start pinching fondant for a pleaded look..
Now to cover all the sharp edges, roll out some fondant and just make long strips out of them.. thick or thin is your choice.. with a paint brush and little water, add the strips to the edges of your dress...
I have a couple these cakes in my photos.. good luck !
