I'm such a wreck about the last book coming out that it didn't even occur to me to create something HP to eat, but now you mention it, Butterbeer cookies might be an idea...?

I'm an HP nut, i have to admit it!!! I'll definitely have to create something as a tribute to my most favorite fictional character!

this is fantastic!!! Thanks so much for choosing Harry Potter! icon_smile.gif My whole group of friends is basically anti-social the week after a book comes out... we're all at home, reading, and heaven forbid someone CALL or stop by, and interrupt that! I've been known to call in sick to work, in order to finish a book. icon_smile.gif My sweetie has already asked for time off, because he knows he'll be staying up all night, reading. icon_smile.gif

And nope... we don't have kids in the house. We're just big fans. icon_smile.gif

I'm so excited because my daughter, who's 11, is finally old enough to read the books. I've never been to a launch party, and obviously this is the last chance to go to one, so we're finding out where they all are and trying to decide which one to attend (and whether to dress up - I'm not normally 'that kind' of fan!!!). I'm so scared of being spoiled I won't be leaving the house or turning on the tv or pc until I've finished - fortunately I'm a fast reader!

very quietly - anyone into fan fiction?

Big Harry Potter fan here.
Can't wait to do a very Harry cake
But I think that Harry's birthday is the 21st, that is the reason for the release date of the book

Nope, Melvira is right... Harry was born "as the seventh month dies to parents who thrice defied the Dark Lord"... The book's release date was originally supposed to be 7/7/07 but they didn't want to rush the editing, so they pushed it back two weeks.

I just bought Debbie Brown's "Magical Cakes" and I'm trying to figure out how to make one of those designs more Potter-ish. Gretta, I love the idea of making a version of the Weasley house.

Horray for Harry! I think Harry Potter is an excellent choice! Our international friends will have more fun with it then a Fourth of July, patriotic theme anyway!

My oldest child and I are both dying for the book. I get to read it first but I told him I'm doing nothing else that day so he can have it. I'm also going to have something easy on hand for dinner so he can cook, he's 8 and can do a few things. icon_twisted.gif

My entire household is sooo excited for all of this! I was at a party goods store yesterday & bought Harry Potter cups, plates, & a tablecloth, and got the cake pan for $5. DD asked if we were having a Harry Potter party and I said, well, I guess we are now icon_lol.gif I'm still not really sure how much I like the look of the pan, but figured the kids would get a kick out of it (and for $5, I'll take it). I'm thinking of lightening bolt cookies, snitch cookies, and wizard hat cookies. I love the wizard and owl cakes in Debbie Brown's books (when DD saw them she called them Dumbledore & Hedwig), but I don't think I'm ready to attempt them yet. DD just finished a week at Harry Potter camp, so she's dying for the last book. I told her I get it first and I'm not telling her what happens icon_twisted.gif

TubbsCookies, I'm with you - I won't go online starting the day before the book comes out until I'm finished reading. I do not want to know anything! I've thought of going to a release party, but DD is only 8 and really isn't into staying up until midnight. There is a Wiccan shop nearby that is having something that night though, which might be really neat.

Can't wait!

I am so excited to have a Harry Potter project to work on while I wait for the movie and book!!! I am trying to narrow down my ideas right now.

TubbsCookies:
Spoilers scare me too! Staying off line for a day or so before the release and until I finish the book is a good idea. I usually read fast, but this time I might go slower knowing it is the last one thumbsdown.gif

Can't wait to see what everyone posts!

LOL Harry Potter camp, are you for real?? My son would love that I am so intrigued what do they do there? We don't have camps like that here icon_cry.gif (not that I'm aware of anyway) they're usually Sport & Rec Camps in conjunction with the school. I bet they're really popular.

Yep, Harry Potter camp! It was run by our local community college, who has half day camps all summer. Most are the traditional sports & arts/crafts camps, but they also had 3 sessions of Harry Potter camp, Pirates camp, and Superheros camp. They made and decorated their own wands, made spellbooks (and practiced), collected potion ingredients and made potions, made "origami" owls carrying letters, did Harry Potter crossword puzzles and word searches, discussed the books and what they thought would happen in book 7, and their counselor read to them from book 5. I'm sure I'm forgetting things too, but DD had a blast. Oh, they wrote out their potion recipes on construction paper and blotted it with tea bags to make it look like old parchment. It was all really neat. The ages for this camp were 6-10, and there was another session for 10-13 year olds, but I don't know if they did the same activities or not. DD is hoping they'll offer it again next year.

o guys, i'm SO happy to hear there are so many other cake decorating/harry lovers out here. Me and my best group of girls in our early 20's or obsessed with it. Really, we're normal people! Before the premiere of the movie, we are planning on getting together at my house for a little pre-Harry party. Since i figure i'll be WAY too excited to do MUCH cake decorating.. i'm doing the broom cake in the Wilton 08 yearbook. I'm gonna write Nimbus on it. It's so funny to me how a group of women, some of us with children (me), and all of us with careers, are just like kids when it comes to this. For the book, we are planning to get together to read the last chapter together so we can talk about it IMMEDIATELY! HAHA! We're also thinking about dressing up for Barnes and Noble's party they are doing the day of the book release. I can't wait until my two year old is old enough to enjoy Harry with his mommy! O and something for the christmas wish list... They are coming out with a set of the hardbacks in a trunk like harry had to go to Hogwarts... Also i'm thinking maybe the 09 ICES convention in Harry Potter's theme park?????!!!!!
OK i might be going overboard but i'm really excited to hear i'm not the only one in love with HARRY!

You read my mind on both counts!! I am dying for the theme park to open! I told DH that he and the baby are staying home while my sister and I go for the first time, then they can come with me for the second trip. But the first time, no distractions! They totally have to convince some of the actors to be there for the opening!

I cant wait until the movie and book come out. I have of course pre-ordered the book and will be standing in line for the movie. My husband thought I was a dork until I got him to start reading the books now he is hooked to and cant wait for the next book to be released. Of course my friends still say I am a dork but I'll convert them next. This is so exciting. I think I am going to make harry potter cookies for the release date. I have to many cakes this month to do anything to big.

I've got you beat - I'm 37 & my sister is 33 and we love Harry! We have gone to the midnight book release and movie opening for every book except the first (didn't read that one until book 2 came out and then was so mad at myself for not reading it sooner). My best friend's daughters, ages 15 & 16 now, always go with us and we have so much fun trying to read the books before the others so we know the ending first!

I am so excited to see all the Harry Potter goodies everyone makes. I already started pieces of mine. We're having the cake the day of the book release, so I'll wait to post pics when it is all done.

I'm even worse! I'm 44 and my brother is 41 and we are hooked. I have read all of the books twice. I loaned the first one to my mother today and she is going to start reading them.

My 13 yr. old niece has turned into quite the Harry Potter geek. She saved her money (she's quite a hoarder) and has decorated her entire room in Harry Potter - the banners are hung, she has the clock from Ron's house, the platform sign and who knows what else! I'm sure that she and my brother will be in line for their book(s).
