I did a couple...( it is on the jungle cake of mine)
I did use a prextal stick...and then cut out leaves with fondant....and used royal icing to hold it all together.

Hope that helps...and i hope i made sense...it is late here...hehe..and I have a cake in the oven...(just trying to stay awake..hehe)

For the fronds I cut out a leaf and ran a wire up the middle of it. Then I used a toothpick to make the impressions. I then draped them over paper towel rolls (use flower formers if you have them) and left them to dry.

To attach the fronds I wrapped the wire around the pretzel and added some royal icing for additional support. I them let it all dry. After the royal icing dried, I wrapped the pretzel in brown fondant and flaired the bottom to create the bottom of the coconut tree. I also poked a few toothpics in The base to help support them and keep them in that crooked position so they looked kinda like coconut trees.

I used a bit of the green fondant mixed with a little yellow to make some coconuts. These are attached underneath the fronds close to the trunk of the tree not on top of the fronds. Once again, use royal icing to attach them.

I hope this is all making sense it's late here. If it does not please feel free to PM me.

Here is a pic of the palm trees sorry about the quality of the photo.

I was looking for an idea featuring the use of a palm tree for a child's end of school year cake and found that the rolled cookies worked excellent for this. I also have found that the new cereal sticks they just came out with look like they would be fantastic for it too. There are also the candy bar sticks put out by nestle. They are chocolate coated and have texture to them that works good. I cut leaves out of gum paste and dried them over the top of a little extract bottle and then took my small scissors and and made little cuts on the leaves (while the gumpaste is still soft) When the leaves were dry, I inserted the cookie sticks and attatched the leaves with royal icing. I then used cocoa puffs as coconuts and it came out really cute. Looks like you have been given a lot of good ideas on here by some very talented ladies. Good luck with your palm trees! icon_smile.gif
