Okay, so I'm taking the plunge and making IMBC for the first time tonight. icon_biggrin.gif I don't want to use raw egg whites and I can't find powdered egg whites so I want to use meringue powder. So my question is: the recipe calls for 5 large egg whites, how much meringue powder and water makes 5 large eggs??

Thanks!! ~Denise

I've never heard of anyone making IMBC this way, but the wilton pkg says 2 tsp meringue + 2 Tbsp Water =1 eggwhite. It says you can substitute for eggwhites in baking--I don't know if that includes icings.

Let us know how it turns out!

Thank you so much leta!!! thumbs_up.gif I have to say that it was pretty good!! It was my first time making it, and I haven't had IMBC before to compare it to the stuff made with real eggs, but I was happy with it. icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks again leta!!! ~Denise

It's Italian Meringue Buttercream.

There should be recipes for it floating around here, I haven't made it yet but it's on my list of things to try!

hth!
Laura.
