A few folks have asked me how to make the treasure chest cake I have a picture of in my photo gallery. http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&meta=allby&member_id=6144&cat=0&pos=14

I got the basic instructions at the following link:

http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/special/cake/cake_treaschest/

Then I embellished a bit on my own by standing the chest on a half sheet cake.

My only advice is to not put any frosting where cake-touches-cake in the joint where the lid meets the base. I found it causes it to be too slippery and the lid tends to slide back. If I made it again, I would take all the cake pieces, stack them how I want them to look and use either bamboo skewers or wedding cake dowels to lock them into place, then I would carefully start frosting the exposed cake and fill the opening with goodies.

Thank you for sharing that with us! You know someone could use this idea for another project for fathers day. On another forum someone wanted help on a fathers day. They can make an open gas grill..Just a thought!

What a GREAT idea! You could make the "grill" part from gray Royal Icing and paint it with silver luster dust to make it look like the chrome grill and you could make the hot dogs and hamburgers out of fondant or candy clay. TOO COOL! Great idea for a variation!

Thanks for sharing that!
