Candy melt transfers??

Hi,
I've seen some cute candy melt transfers on cakes, like this one....

anyone have an idea how it's done? I'm sure you use Wilton's candy melts, but is it done like bc frozen transfers? I would think the candy would be a bit thin if it done this method.

anyone have suggestions on how it's done?

I would think it is done very similar to the bc transer, or color flow technique. Think you would have to outline first and then refrigerate until it sets, then come back in and fill. I would think with each color you will need to chill and then come back in with your next color.

I tried this last night for the first time and I got frustrated because my melted candy was running everywhere. Even if I made just the smallest hole it ran like crazy. Was it too hot maybe?

maybe it was too hot. I think it should feel warm in your hands but not hot. What were you using to pipe the chocolate? I personally like the parchment triangles. You can get it very tight for a very small hole if you want.

Keep trying! I hated them the 1st time I tried them, but I got the hang of them and the turned out great with a little practice.

actually i do have 2 questions. after each color, should you put it in the fridge so it can set? or does it set fast enough that you can leave out a bit then start next color.
Also, how do you stick them to your cake? w/frosting? also, can you attach a popsicle stick to the back and just insert in the cake that way?

you dont have to put them in the fridge, but I usually did for a minute or so to firm it up beforethe next color. You want to make sure it is at least teh outline is set up before you do the next color otherwise the it lines get a little blurry. You can attach with buttercream or you can put a lollipop stick on the back and attach with more melted chocolate. That is what I did for my winnie the pooh cake in my photos.

Are you sure you don't have to put them in the fridge? My second CT, I didn't put in the fridge, and it wasn't shiny and didn't come off as nice as the first one. I assumed it was because I didn't have it in the fridge.

If it is very warm or humid you may want to put them in a few minutes, to make it easier to release from paper HOWEVER, any longer than that, they will become brittle and start to curl up. Unless I'm in a huge hurry, I make my transfer first and by the time I've iced the cake their ready to be placed on the cake. The longer they sit the better they are.

So Ive been reading on this techinque...its just like the BC transfer only with choc. I had tried melting choc at one time a few years back and well it didnt work out...tonight, I had some parchement paper, I cut out Triangles and made very small cones. That part went good!!!

 

I got only a few pieces of choc...like mabye 6 pieces, and melted them 30 secs in the mircowave and put into the cone...and traced my image out...so far so good...now letting set awhile...Im realizing that if you have lets say 6 pieces to put on a cake, this can take along time, so I would need to start a few days before hand...Im hoping this works...

 

What I need to make sure on is this: Once Ive filled all the colors in...do I put a back coating to thicken it some and give it strength, so it doesnt break??? Its for a cake on friday...for my grand daughter. Thought I'd start now playing.

This is the image I picked...the sandel broke at the heel part, because its so thin

 

So I played last night doing CT, and I only had white, yellow and choc....I started my Dora image...I thought I could tint my white to any color I needed....NOPE...all I had were Wilton Colors and that made the candy seize....so I stopped, it was 2am.

 

I did do the outline in choc, and her dress yellow....this morning, well my morning which is about noon, almost noon as I work graveyard....I took a peek...dress looks good!!! but her sandle broke...it was too think...Im hoping I can fix this.

 

So back to my original question...know you have to add layers to make it sturdy...but how do you do that on the sandel part?...do you cover the whole image with Candy melt in the color to match the cake??? Lost here. Im thinking just like you do a BCFT....?

 

Also I noticed some of you put lollipop sticks to make the image stand...do you think I could snap/cut a piece and glue it on sticking straight out....like a pin, so I can just slide it into the side of the cake and it holds??? Kind of like an ear rings goes on (stud). Or would I put a dab of Candy melt and glue it on?

Ok, well I didn't know what to do...so I did it like a BC Transfer and made the back thicker by filling it in...Need to Correct her hair color!!! Can I once I place it on the cake "paint" on candy color onto the brown on  her hair???  Dont want to pipe on candy melt as I dont think her hair will look defined...not sure...but can I PAINT IT ON with just candy color?? or can I pipe on with a tip #1 BC?? will it ruin the candy image???

 

Here is my Very First Candy Melt...still on wax paper and turned over with wax paper to hold it on back...so two sides have wax paper until Im ready for it friday...Didnt come out as planned, but I guess not bad for a first time.  I think its too thick....I took baby steps to do this...melting only 5-6 pieces of candy at a time, and I cut my own triangles for parchement bags...since I have alot of parchement paper. I would put like 2 table spoons of candy melt in the cone. Since I can NOT seem to melt candys to do Cake balls...this worked out good for me!!

 what the image looks like...Need to fix her hair color!!! Its wrong...and she is too dark also...my daughter says she doesnt look hispanic...lol...oh gosh....Can I paint the candy color on her hair, will it ruin the image?? I can add candy dots to her braclet to fix that...Where can I find colors to make light browns for skin tones?? for further projects.

Well I got no replies on how to fix her hair color...so I took a chance ruining the image I have and I got a tooth pick and dabbed it in black....and got a paint brush, small ...and touched it to the toothpick to pick up the black color, and painted the CT image...this is what I got.

I hope it doesn't ruin it....

 

I also noticed that my image is not shiney...its a flat looking dull image...anyway to make them shiney later on with other images?

I wish she her skin wasn't so dark and she looked more like the Acutal Dora....Anyway to fix this???
