I have been asked to make a baseball-themed wedding cake. For the past month I have been collecting soo many ideas from all of the baseball cakes that are posted at CC, but the cakes usually have a younger feel to them. My dilemma is finding a balance between making a fun, yet classy wedding cake. The cake can be 3 or 4 tiered. I would really appreciate any and all ideas.

On a personally note, I am a currently going to culinary school learning to become a pastry chef. After hours (too many to count) of searching the internet for cake inspiration, this website is by far the best one I have found. I always recommend this site; it is simply a wonderful resource.

Welcome to CC! I see this is your first time posting! soo....welcome to your new addiction!! The warning label is for real! LOL

As soon as I saw baseball wedding cake I was thinking that the whole top layer could be a baseball! Instead of it looking kid like you can do really thin black lines for the stitching instead of red. Then the middle layer could be the home plate (obviously some cutting involved) and the bottom layer could be a nice green for the grass. I don't know! maybe sounds too simple but, I don't know how detailed or what else you would want to do with that type of cake! Hopefully some other CCers will have ideas!
Good luck!

What is their favorite team? Maybe you could make a classic tiered white with real baseballs between layers. with team on sides somehow.

I love this idea for my baseball cake! I would've never thought to have a "baseball bat" looking like it is going through the cake. I also like how the cake tiers are positioned. Having the scoreboard on the side of the bottom tier is also a cool idea. This link is definitely a huge source for inspiration. Thank you so much!

StepOnmi - great minds must think alike because I was envisioning the same look. Trust me it is not cheezy at all! I think I am going to combine the sketch that Doug linked to me, and the idea of having a baseball as the top tier. I also like your idea of having different colored stitching on the baseball. Today Im thinking that I would like to have the entire cake to have a vintage feel.

Thank you so much for your ideas!

I was thinking for the top you could do a spray... you know how everyone has been using those wires to put stars and hang embelishments from, well you could hang mini baseballs and bats from them..and the rest of the cake could be a shade of white with embosed balls and bats to still try and give it a somewhat elegant look to it... Just a thought

ok, maybe it is just me, but I dont get it....how was the base constructed???
I looked up the cake stand so i could get a visual as i read the instructions, but i dont understand how the cake board could rest on feet of a cake seperator plate and not slide around.
looking for translations...

paula, if you read this, way to go!!!
jennifer, if you attempt this...good luck and post pictures!!!

somewhere in her post about the cake, Paula explained that the stand is a modified tall tier stand. She had the bottom replaced w/ a square and the support point put in the corner. From there it assembles like the standard tall tier stand.

as for how cake doesn't sift -- remember -- when putting cakes on cake boards or separator plates -- a dab of icing is used as glue (and in case of a big cake like this, that bottom tier is heavy enough that gravity will help too)

I made a sports-themed christening cake recently...perhaps if you keep each layer with the baseball stitches (instead of different styles like mine) and maybe white and ivory.....and not topsy-turvy.....you will have a classic wedding cake that has a definate baseball motif.
