A co-worder of my sister's wanted me to to a Barbie doll cake with the doll included (a real Barbie--not a pick) for $20!! NOT!!!

Sorry but that would not even come close to covering my food/Barbie costs, much less my time. I graciously explained to her that my pricing is set and there is extra time involved in doing a cake like that. I would be happy to do it for her for the price stated if she can't find somewhere else to do it within her range. (Which--btw--will not be at any bakery around here--they charge $60 to $75 for one--I have researched it!)

I'm actually really proud of myself for standing behind my pricing. I make an excellent, home made, fresh product that tastes as good, if not better than it looks. It's a first for me--standing up for myself.

Good for you! I know what you did was hard was for but it was the right thing. We always want to please people and make them happy but you are also in business and you cannot sell youself and your cakes short.

Way to go ... people think because we bake cakes from our homes that we can do it cheaper... like crp7 said, we are a business, it may be home based, but we are just like all the other bakeries except I think we take more time and put more creativity into our cakes than some bakeries do... some bakeries tend to rush through the cakes to get them out... they feel they do not make enough profit if they take too much time on the cakes with decorating ... I'm glad you turned the cake down... no way I'd done a cake like that for $20 either icon_smile.gif

yep yep yep yep yep! People think cakes should be the price of the box ones that you buy and make yourself..... I will admit it, I use to be the same way.... freak when I seen prices of cakes... thats why I started doing them myself...and now I still think they are expensive, but NOW I understand WHY though... I dont stand by a particular price... I still stutter when asked how much I charge... I just tell them the price of the cake is the price of the stuff i use and buy for the cake....I dont charge for my time though... I just dont see "Spectacular" craftsmanship so I dont feel right charging for it know what I mean?
