My son was testing for his yellow belt in karate today so I decided to make him a cake spur of the moment. I learned a lot.

1 - If your kids don't drink milk in the heat, it might be spoiled when you go to pour some for the cake. But half and half sure made a nice substitution!

2 - Don't leave pans sitting around. I greased and floured and even put waxed paper in the bottom of a 10" springform pan. Then poured the batter in to an unprepped 9" springform pan. At least it was a springform pan. It could be rescued. Of course, I didn't *have* a real cake pan that was big enough ... which is why the springform pans were out.

3 - It's good to plan cakes ahead. I found a *great* picture to use on this cake. It was *the* picture. But to make it small enough to fit in the 1 square cake pan I own, I would have had to deal with too much detail in too little space. So I have a rectangular image on a round cake (see my photos). Not horrid but not great. Oh... since I put it in the wrong pan (grrrr) the image was too large. But I guess it doesn't look too bad.

4 - Corners on FBCT don't work so well. Or maybe it was that I didn't make the FBCT big enough. And too much pressure on the back of the FBCT can crack the lines. I guess that would only happen with crusting butter cream and only if it crusted before you filled the image?

It was fun making the cake though and I do think that I will invest in a good 1/4 sheet cake pan soon. I have lots of 9x13 pans but none with sharp edges/corners like a cake pan.

My son was *thrilled* with his cake. He wouldn't let me cut into the boy on the cake icon_smile.gif I'm so glad he appreciated it. It was his nut allergies that prompted me to start decorating cakes.

Too funny but only because I can relate! It seems like I never quite have what I need for what I want to do. It is kind of like my cross-stitch. I have a binder full of thread colors but do I ever pick up a new pattern and have all the colors I need? No-o-o-o.

Anyway, I think your cake turned out great. It looks kind of cool with the corners of the BCT curving over the cake.

Thanks! I like it too and I suppose if you didn't know better you might think it was intentional. I'm glad that the transfer softened and bent instead of melting down the sides. All was well in the end!
