I am new to cookies but not cakes. I may be baking cookies for our first football game and was wondering if there was a dog bone cutter? I am new to cookies and haven't really paid any attention. One of my son's is on the football team and the other in band at our high school and our first game is our rival and I was going to decorate the cookies in our school colors and music notes in the shape of the bone because we are the bulldogs. Is decorating cookies like decorating cakes? Like what kind of icing do you use and so on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

bransmom, definately get in the articles and print out the bake and decorate cookies tutorial...its fabulous...I used the no fail cookie recipe and the frosting recipe from Antonia (however I did not thin the icing enough for smooth cookies)...anyway I just made dog bone cookies for a puppy shower...you can do a search in the galleries for puppy shower (mine have a green table cloth behind them) and it should come up. I got the cutter from JoAnn's but also saw one at Michaels.

Yes, there are several dog bone cutters available. Try Foose and Pinenose Productions - they have the inexpensive tin ones. Or you could order from coppergifts.com, but they are $9+. There is also a music note cutter available, too.
Cookies require a firm icing so you can stack or bag them. I use a simple milk/powdered sugar glaze as a base coat and then royal icing for the details. I think I have a dog bone cookie in my photos. I'll check to see - if not, I'll upload one right away. (Music notes shown in photos, too).

I have them in a couple of different sizes and most I got in a huge second hand lot of cookie cutters but Michael's has one in the loose cutter section... If you can't find one, there is an amazing woman on here who does all her cookies without cutters!

I think she uses a cardboard template - I guess it would take longer but after looking at her work, there is no doubt that it works! Hope you find it icon_smile.gif

I bought one from Wal-Mart. It's a plastic one made by Wilton. Found it near the cake decorating stuff. Hopefully you can pick one up and not have to order it and pay S/H.
