I have a groom's cake for this Saturday and I am going to be making a laptop computer cake with the lid OPEN. I was thinking of doing the lid out of a wood board with it @ a 90 degree angle, nailed together under the bottom, and cover the board with fondant. I would sit the cake right in front of the board so that it would look like all one piece. Does anyone else have a better suggestion?

How about using chocolate? (Chocolate transfer does not sound like the right term, but I think technically that would be what it is)

Laptops are so light now, the lid should not look to thin, you could use some nice colors for the screen, and then make it wider/heavier at the bottom for some stabilty.

How would I do a chocolate tranfer or how could I make a lid out of chocolate, that sound like a great idea, but have NO idea how to do it maybe some instructions on how it could be done and then to stand it up and secure it in place. Thank you!

If go to Articles and search Buttercream transfer you get links to 2 articles. I have read in other threads that chocolate works the same way. I would also run a search in forums on chocolate transfers - I know I have seen some threads within the week. I would think you would want to make it kind of thick - but have not done one myself so do not want to lead you astray.

if you left of a couple of extra inches down at the bottom, you could actually insert it into the cake.
