I have made several doll cakes and never had the cake rise to the complete top with only 1 mix it's just not going to happen. If you are really unhappy with it bake another and add a table spoon og meringue powder. The MP will help the cake raise a bit more but not enough to fill the entire pan. I always use 1 mix and cakes look great. i just pop the cake out and level it and go to town decorating. Honestly, after you get it all togeth with the doll pic you will see that it looks great.

You might try the recipe for the extender - it's great. Look in the recipe section for cake extender. It's like a mini cake mix.

I wouldn't use two mixes in the wondermold. I think that wouldn't bake right. It is meant for one mix, and it doesn't rise to the top.

What I did was use two boxes of cake mix, filled the doll pan to 3/4's and used the left over for a 9" pan that I baked, iced and placed the doll on top of. Please see my pink doll cake in my photos for an example of what I am talking about. Best of luck to you thumbs_up.gif

ok, i just looked at this thread again and all your suggestions (although different) makes sense to me..i will try each and let u know what happened..but here is the picture of the doll cake i made with the cake that did not rise to the top...it was really a disaster..my fondant was too soft and i had a hard time working with it.. samsgranny, i looked at your doll and your other cakes too..gosh, they are pretty..using the remaining batter to make a cake for the stand is brilliant..i wanted to make ruffles or pleats to my gown but it was sooo hard to work with that soft fondant...and, i did not use buttercream..i used white mountain frosting (simil icon_cry.gif ar to 7 minute frosting) and it was so hard to smooth the fondant..

Marj, you did a wonderful job and I really love the little flowers. The more I bake and decorate the more I learn, it just seems that I am always exploring new territory and trying new techniques. It can be frustrating at times and very rewarding at others. Best of luck to you thumbs_up.gif

It doesn't look like a disaster to me. I think it turned out pretty good!

When a cake does not rise, oven temperature is among other causes. With the doll cake mold you MUST insert the metal part inside to help the cake bake. The mold should be filled up to 1/3 from the border. Also, the best cake to use for dolls is the pound one as is more firm. Hope this helps, good luck!

That's a great idea! I love how your doll came out using that method. I must try it!
