Ok ladies and gents... I added up the most popular ideas from our 'July ideas' thread, and came up with the top three. (I would've given more choices, but there were like six of them tied for fourth place, so I decided to stop at three!) So, remember, ONE VOTE ONLY!!! Please respect all involved and place your vote only ONE time. (Yes, I am repeating myself, sorry!)

If there are any questions, please let me know! If you have no clue what I am talking about, please read this:

TOTM FAQ's: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-352603.html

Ok y'all... I can't wait to find out what the answer will be!! And I am DYING to see all the amazing creations next month. This poll will run until next Sunday, then I will post a new thread for the new theme, and I will absolutely link to it here!! Thanks!!

Well considering both the next Harry Potter movie AND the LAST book are out in July, it would only seem fitting to do Harry! That's my vote!

I love the christmas idea but since I am married to an american living in Canada I always try to make July 4th special for him and I always make him a cake so since I will be doing that my vote is for *** patriotism / July 4th ***** that way I dont have to make something special and end up eating it myself lol

Good Lord... next month we are going to have to make a shorter amount of time for voting, my tummy is in knots wondering which one is going to win!!! This is not good for my heart!!! icon_rolleyes.gif I know, I'm silly, but I get very 'into' this stuff, you know!!

i will say one thing --

(not sure if addressed anywhere)

regardless of what wins ---

once an idea has won -- it should be retired for at least 3 or more years (in theater, once we do a show we usually wait 7-10 years before doing it again.)

otherwise I could see, esp. w/ july and December and February and March -- it always being the same old same old.

-----START vent----

and if I may, even while the preponderance of CCers is American -- I would hope that we could take a more global viewpoint and be open to themes that are not so strongly identified with American culture.

example Thanksgiving w/ a capital T -- American holiday while...

thanksgiving lower case T -- something all can express no matter the culture.

4th of july -- uniquely American
Patriotism -- global --- and open to far more interpretations even in America than just the red/white/blue flag waving, fireworks and uncle sam. (sort of sore spot for me living so close to Fort Bragg and seeing how the soldier and their families sacrifice DAILY for us and our freedoms -- an oh ya, we tend to think of them just once a year -- and then not even all that much -- true patriotism is more than picnics, bunting, parades and fireworks)

-----END vent ----

Excellent points Doug, and the exact reason I put Patriotism first! I want to be sure that that everyone knew that didn't just mean American Patriotism, but I added 4th of July for those who voted for 4th of July in the ideas thread, so they would be perfectly clear that this heading covered that topic as well! I also agree about 'retiring' a topic. I can't guarantee it will make it three years without being repeated, but we will try very hard to have new and original ideas! I know the tendency is to go with a holiday theme during certain months, but we will try to keep it fresh and interesting!

I don't think the poll has changed since I checked in on it a few or more hours ago.....where are all our theme enthusiasts? It is a close vote. I am thinking next month you should open the polls five days before the new month so we don't have to wait so stinking long! LOL

Yah, that's what I just said in the post above Doug's!! I can't stand the wait! This is the first time, so I'm hammering out the details. I think next month 5 days for ideas and 3 days for voting would be plenty.

I see that it is a tie right now, which I'm sure will change. But is there a plan in the event of a tie? Pull one out of a hat? Poll again with the two for a day?

Can't wait to see the final results!

Welllll... if it's a tie, I have a small panel of people who can make the decision, unless everyone thinks that is a terrible idea, then we can re-poll it for one day or something I guess. I just figured you would all be ok with me and 2 other people putting our heads together and choosing one!! We promise it will be one of the tied themes, and not a totally different one that we come up with! hahahaha! Oh, and I'm not telling you who those two people are because I don't want you to try and send them gifts and bribes! hahahahaha! Teasing!!!

Excellent point, Doug!

Am I the only one drawing a blank on other interpretations of patriotism that could be depicted on a cake or cookies? I think that the problem is that I am not good at coming up with concrete depictions of abstract themes. (I would have the same problem with themes of, for example, courage, integrity, or humility.)

So...here's a challenge--what are some ideas for patriotism that aren't USA-centric?

Red-panda... a flag of any country. An historic figure from the country of your choice whom is seen as a hero or person that worked hard for that country. A popular export from the country of your choice. A popular movie character or a celebrity who hails from that country. A military uniform or emblem from that country. These are just a few ideas.

You could even go the route of not picking a certain country, and keep it more general. You could make a figure saluting. A hand over a heart. Or even a fancy star. You could also pick a notable landmark from a country and do something related to that. For example... if you picked France, you could do the Eiffel Tower. You could do the Sphinx in a patriotic nod to Egypt. You are not tied to the more mainstream ideas, you can branch out and be wild!!
