I just finished using my first tub. It's GREAT stuff!!!! I had to actually make buttercream this morning, and I was grumbling the whole time. teehee

I'd stir it first. You can add flavoring if you like, in small amounts. I'd play around a little just to see what you like.

But most importantly... just have fun with it. icon_smile.gif Everyone loves this stuff, and it crusts BEAUTIFULLY. Works incredibly well with the Melvira method, and does great for borders and such.

I would offer one observation... it does get a bit creamier with the heat of your hand, so if you're doing something like flowers, practice first to be sure that it's going to work right. If it's too goopy, I add a bit of powdered sugar, and it works fine after that. That could also be my location... hot and humid is the weather here.

Have fun! icon_smile.gif

How large a tub do they sell, and how much do they charge ?

It's a 28 lb tub, and my Sam's charged $26.58. You do need to call the bakery in advance, and make sure they have some on hand. Especially on the weekends. They don't have a problem ordering them for you... but on the weekends they're so swamped, they hate to part with any. Of course, if you beg real sweet and they have them, you'll get one. icon_razz.gif (I'd still call first! LOL)

I just finished up my second tub since December.......which is pretty impressive considering I am not in business lol. I had to make buttercream for the fishing creel cake and I was so mad the whole time and I ended up with tons of air bubbles trying to pipe a basket weave......drove me nuts.......I have got to get back to Sam's club and get some more frosting!!!

I am leary of "canned frosting". I tried CK brand and thought it was pretty good. Can anyone tell me if it compares to that? I have tried the Wal-Mart brand (sold in the bakery) but was not crazy about that. Is it different?
Thanks!!!
Amy

Does anyone know if it is the same icing Walmart uses in their bakery? I don't like Walmart's very much.

The bUttercream and the bEttercreame are the same used at both wal-mart and sam's as they are owned by the same company and they get HUGE discounts on it ordering for it for both

I've used it. I like to add flavors to it. The people that the cakes were made for liked it. I have been using it for practice cakes.

Sam's also sells the whipped cream icing in a 15 pound bucket (15 lbs of whipped cream is a lot!!!) And it is SO YUMMY!!!!! I think it's a lot cheaper than the buttercream but not sure, I used it on my brother's cake in florida and it worked great, lot's of air bubbles of course but I did the cornelli lace on it and then froze the entire cake till his wedding and then my mom transported it and it was lovely!

hey guys, to answer a few questions, sam's sells bUttercream in both vanilla and chocolate as well as ths bEttercream(whipped topping) in vanilla and chocolate. they also sell cream cheese icing that doesnt need to be in the fridge. the price for the buttercream is around 26.56 but varies slightly from area to area, the bettercream is about 22.53 and also varies from area to area, the cream cheese is about 29 for 12lbs. you can only get it a sam's clubs that have a bakery, should call ahead and ask if you can buy a bucket, cant always spare it. as for walmart only some of them will sell their icing. if you want to know anything else pm me, i work for sams. julia

Can anyone give me any tips on the Sam's versions of butter and bettercreme? I'd like to find something that I can use and just whip or is ready to spread as opposed to making from scratch. I love the taste of my BC, but it seems like I can never keep enough of it on hand and I hate making it- I just love using it. Does either crust? work w/fondant? take color well? please help if at all possible.
