Not that I've ever tried this, but what about a cherry mousse filling? I figured I've seen raspberry and strawberry, why not cherry?

What about doing cream cheese and marshmellow fluff? it's cheese cakey....i think that would taste yummy.
brick of cream cheese
small jar of cream cheese
mix them together....mmmm.....

How about just mixing some marachino (sp?) cherry juice in with your buttercream and use that as a filling?
