Okay, if I decide to take this order it's for a 24"x36"x12" accordian. Here's a picture. I've never even come close to doing a cake of this size. The customer originally wanted it to be standing upright like the photo but I'm just not up for that kind of stress I told him that if I was to take the order it would be 3-D (not sure if that's the proper term) but laying down. How much would you charge for this cake. I live in a pretty good area where my 12" cakes usually go for $70-85 depending on the details. Please help!
easily $150 to even $200, considering the level of detail required.
some hints: for buttons, fondant cut out w/ large round tip. grill -- royal icing dried on flower former. gold ridges of squeeze box -- dry spaghetti would give fast, even results and could be brushed w/ gold dust.
cover main cake in marbalized fondant.
That's a challenging one isn't it? I would recommend that you come up with an estimate of how much you charge per hour based on the previous prices of your cakes. Then estimate the cost of your ingredients and supplies (looks like lots of luster dust!). In the end estimate how many hours you think it would take you to complete it, based on your usual length of time to produce a cake and add 2 to that. Once you get the numbers together, you multiply your cost per hour by the estimated number of hours plus the cost of supplies, and you have your price!
Hope you can keep up with my rambling and that it is helpful.
My goodness! How many servings is that going to make. If it were me,
I would charge as if it were a wedding cake, by the serving-and then add additional costs for the artwork.
