I've been calling all around town to try and find a kitchen to bake my cakes in so I can get my liscence. No one has even called me back, then I hear from my local inspection guy at the health department of a place that is about to open for business. It is a tea room and it is located in an old historic building. Well he talks to the lady and she is very interested in having me share her kitchen with her and possibly making some of her baked goods and cakes for her parties in lieu of rent. She throws bridal luncheons, dessert formals and so on. I couldn't believe it!! I'm so thrilled! Then she asked if i would do wedding cakes, I was like yeah!!!! I'm meeting her on Saturday to show her my pictures and work out details. I feel like this is going to work out! Cross your fingers everyone!! And thanks for all the inspiration and the motivation to become legal and taking the next step. icon_smile.gif

Baked goods in lieu of rent, if you do decide to do this baked good in exchange for rent. Set up a price and what she will get for price of rent (in writing). This way not saying she will be expecting you to do a all this stuff for her becuase she is letting you use her kitchen. So set up a rent price and keep a log showing her with every order. That way she will she needs to cut you a check or have some left over to carry for the next month. Also have her sign all orders. Just cover yourself, so you do not get frustrated.

Example: Keep a record

Rent is $300.00 (apriL)

April orders:

4/15/06 - 3 dozen of scones - large $2.50 each = $90.00
(http://www.homegourmet.com/ got price from here)

amount left over to spend for April: $210.00

By her see this she will see where she is at and what you have done for.

Good luck and I hope it all works out.

leana is right!! I would to the same thing, follow her advise! And also, have this lady sign for every single thing you bake for her, that way you also have proof of what she ordered. It's not like she is going to stab you in the back, but better be safe than sorry! You never know! Wish you the best of luck!

Congratulations!! I hope it'll work out great!!! But like the others said: protect yourself from abuse!!! Set up a "rental fee" and bake goods for that amount. But that's a great opportunity!!!! Great find!!!

Best of luck!!!
