Gold Dragees! I've done a search online but wanted opinions from those who have bought these online about their quality and the best place to get them.

I make a lot and I mean A LOT of cakes for the Naval Hospital and I usually dust my pre-made white pearls with my gold dust (dry and even with a vodka mix) but that is nothing like the true gold dragee!!!!! I would love to get my hand on some but just want to know from ya'll where I should look and where I should stay away from!!!

Any help ya'll can give me would make me EXTREMELY happy and every one at the Naval Hospital too!!! icon_wink.gificon_razz.gif

How do you dust your dragees? I put mine in a container filled with the dust and swirl it around and get really good results. Anyway, I've never had a problem with sugar craft, but it seems high to me.

I know Cakes by Sam has them too http://www.cakesbysam.com/store/cart.php?target=product&product_id=21516&category_id=261 .

I get mine from a local cake store and I'm sure he would ship them. I pay about $6.99 for roughly 3/4 - 1 cup of them. I think he buys in bulk and then repackages them into smaller plastic canisters.
PM me if you'd like their information.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks everyone!!!!!

I checked out Cakes by Sam and she doesn't carry them, at least I couldn't find them on the site! I just check out Pfeil and Holling and a little pricey!

I do exactly that! I put them in a smaller container and paint them and then once they are dry I dust them. They just don't have the shine that the genuine dragee does! I use my silver ones a lot but the gold is preferable!

Thank you everyone!!!!!! I did find one site. I bookmarked it, I can't remember the name right now but they seemed rather inexpensive...$10.50 for a 4 oz. of 5 mm!!! That's the perfect size. I use 4mm silver but either would work!!!

Here is a place where 2 oz gold dragee (5 mm) is just 3.29

I don't know what their shipping runs, since they're local to me and I just stop by from time to time, but it's worth checking out!

Funny thing is is that I just ordered some yesterday. I ordered my from www.cakecraftshoppe.com. They are pretty reasonable and ship right away. You might have a problem getting them shipped to you, though. I understand that California has prohibited them from being shipped to the state. You might want to check into that before you order them.

Think about how often you plan to use the gold dragees before purchasing.

If you know you are going to use lots of them over the coming year, it may be worth it to purchase them from a place like Pfeil and Holing. You will pay 30 dollars for 2 pounds of 5 mm dragees at P&H, as opposed to 10.50 for only 4 ounces from the place you found. At that price, it would cost you 42 dollars to purchase 1 pound of them.

I just bought some this morning on EBAY. It cost $2.99 for #5 gold Dragees. They are about 1/3 the size of a pea. The shipping was only $2.00. So for $4.99 I got 4 oz. of them. I think that's a great price.
