I made IMBC for the first time... Is it suppose to have a gritty texture or did I do something bad wrong???

It should not be gritty. If the sugar was fully dissolved when you added it to the bowl, very likely it was the syrup hitting the beater when you added it to the bowl. It will instantly crystalize agains the side of the bowl, making it gritty.
