I think it might be fun. There is a cake club in my area, it's called the Sugar Art Guild, but I'm guessing this would be broader then that...so here is your first vote.

I'd vote yes but wouldn't want to be in charge of organizing it. icon_lol.gif

Would be nice for some of us that don't know much to mingle with those who do. I know my daughter would be interested. Finding a place to have it would be one of the first steps. Where would you think a central location would be?

I have access to a building with a kitchen. I am President of our local Lions Club and we have a nice 60 x 40 building that I could rent. As a member I can get it for half price ($30) for the day. It would not be centrally located though.

It would be nice if we could get those who know how to do different things to demonstrate. I don't do much but the basics. My daughter likes working with fondant but I don't like fondant. I've never even seen gumpaste used. Just some ideas..............

Great lady's....
Maybe if we get enough interested we can rotate the location each time so it isn't a long drive each time...
It looks like I am central so far.... hope we can get a few more thinking about it....

I am all for this! I was just thinking that I should start a thread asking the same thing!! I am in SW Missouri. I agree with having the more experienced demo for the novice. Sounds like a lot of fun. Count me in and lets see where this goes.

I would also like to get involved in a mo club. thumbs_up.gif There is one here somewhere but their location is too far from me. I think a location choice would be more helpful to arrange before setting up demos. Gas is so high. icon_cry.gif

to CharlieMo. I live in Belton and have a group from the Kansas side that I go to monthly that is located in op.ks. If you are interested you can contact me. icon_biggrin.gif

Ok, if we would like to have the first one in the St. Louis Area - I've got a facility we can do it in. I work for The Salvation Army and we have a community center with a kitchen. I've just got to get permission from the faciliator for the building - but it should not be a problem at all. Maybe we could take up a collection to make a small donation to the Army...but that's up to us. I'm in O'Fallon MO - that's in St. Charles County, we are about 35-40 miles to the northwest of St. Louis. I am coming up on my busy season - The Tree of Lights Campaign so the months of October through December are very busy for us - so before or after would be great.

But, St. Louis is a long way to drive from Springfield - Kansas City and gosh forbid - some of you gals up north...can't even think of a town up there. If we do it somewhere more centrally located in the state - that's out of my hands as far as a facility. Center of the state to me means someplace like Jeff City - maybe even Columbia. Some place between Spfld and St. louis could be Rolla?...something like that...just some ideas. What does center of the state man to the rest of you MO girls? I guess it all depends on how far some of you all are willing to drive.

I suggest we start small...like once or twice a year. Then we can see if this takes off. The Sugar Art Guild that I just joined meets quarterly (4 times a year) for a reference point.

Topics....maybe something about making and using mmf - since that is a huge discussion point on CC...or cookie decorating....just some ideas.

In the cake club I just joined, the domonstrations are from regular members that are good at something...not necessarly professional...just talented in some areas.

SO, here are my thoughts....next!

Finding a facility with a kitchen is a must. Versailles (where ladyday95 lives) and St. Louis would be about the same distance for me so I wouldn't care which. As far as how many times a year, I would say let's wait to see how the first one goes before that decision is made.

I would be open to any demonstrations as we all have something to learn, I'm sure. My biggest thing to learn is to keep my mouth shut while the demonstrations are going on. icon_lol.gif

I spoke with my daughter and she was all for it also. Like me she has never even seen gumpaste flowers and some of the other things talked about on here.

Any more people in Missouri interested? Jump in here and give us your opinions.

I agree with getting together the first time then deciding when or how often to gather. Also, I don't mind driving as far as St. Louis but I suggest we think about doing this after Christmas w/ school starting in a few weeks and then w/ Thanksgiving and Christmas... plus it would give us more time to make plans. Just a thought icon_smile.gif

I'm in St. Louis and I would also like to join depending on how far it is. I would probably have more to learn than to contribute initially but love the idea of informally getting together to share ideas and talk cake!

CKKERBER, where in St. Louis? I am in West County.

Stacey- I vote you demonstrate MMF and cake forming. You are my hero! Esp. after S saw your "Spongie" (was we lovingly call him here) cake!!!!! She just added that to her list for her birthday!

I would be in if we St. Louis/St. Charles girls can go together. And I agree with after Christmas. That will give us plenty of time to plan.

Jenn - all I could hear in my head was..."Ferris Bueluer, you're my hero..."" Thanks for the vote of confidence...but I still consider myself a beginner...just one of the little people and without you and cake centeral I am, and will always be, nothing........(that's my oscar speach, how'd I do?) Sorry, feeling a bit sarcastic tonight. But again, thank you.

I guess where were in the state we meet - those from the other parts could carpool...save gas and have fun driving together.

I agree that after Christmas and the New Year would give us time to coordinate and recruit people to come....i bet all these other states are jealous right now.....take that Texas and New York!!!!...see, I just can't help myself.

I wonder, how else could we promote this in the cake loving world of MO. I know we could tell everyone in the St. Louis Sugar Art Guild - there are at least 4 or 5 of us who are cc members that I know of - at least 2 others in this conversation, how about those of you in other areas - any way to spread the word in your areas? Mom's, sisters, daughters...and let's not forget the boys.

Humm, this could be really fun. If we keep this thread going for a while, there is a better chance to get more MO folks involved.....

I think after the holidays is a great idea I just hope we don't forget about it because I think it would be such a great experience. I agree with starting out with one or two times a year for now. I know there is a community center in Belton that we could rent that is pretty nice and has a kitchen with it. That's about 35-45 mins north of me but I am also game for meeting somewhere else central. I guess central for me would be Jeff City or maybe columbia. Just some thoughts.

I am in Kansas City. I too would love to come if it fit into my schedule. My husband and I are on staff at a church with a large kitchen that I know that we could use, so I was thinking that maybe someone in Central Missouri goes to a church with a kitchen we could borrow for a day?

Just a thought!

I would love to be a part of a cake club! I live in Joplin, MO, (10 min from Carthage, about an hour from Springfield). For those of you in St. Louis, there's already a cake club there---I remember reading about it somewhere--I'll see if I can locate it again for you. But, wouldn't it be fun to have a CC cake club!

Once we figure out the time and place, maybe a few of us could each take a topic and prepare some teaching demonstrations so there would be several things to learn at each meeting. Also, would these be two to three hour meetings or would we want (for example) to meet all day on a Saturday? I think if some people are going to drive quite a ways, maybe we could meet every two or three months and have a longer meeting and show how to do several things to make it worthwhile for people driving a long distance.

Maybe we could meet in Branson and make a family vacation out of it, too? Ha ha! My husband would love that!
