I'm still here...

Anyway, since we are kind of stale-mated and everyone is busy with school starting, etc...why don't I just throw a date out there and maybe we can start looking at locations for the date.

I haven't re-read the whole thread, but I think I remember several people saying they wanted to meet after Christmas and others who wanted to start sooner. So, why don't we do a mid to late October informal meeting (get to know you, maybe a couple of demo/teaching things) in each of our local areas, see how that goes, and plan a larger state-wide meeting for sometime in January or February?

For the Springfield group---How would October 21 work? That's a Saturday. It gives us enough time to find a place to meet and would be before Halloween and the big Thanksgiving/Christmas rush. I don't know what everyone's skill set is, so I'll volunteer to teach how to do fondant/gumpaste roses if you want to learn that.

Actually, if we're going to get organized, why doesn't everyone list things that they'd like to learn how to do and would like to see a demo/teaching session on. That would help us start planning our meetings better.

I, for one, would love to see someone do the quilling on a cake. I've read some articles and would love to see it done in person.

Your turn...

I don't think everyones lost interest, just back to school is such a busy time for most of us. Here's the deal. From what I understand from all I've read and people I've PM'd, we want a meeting, but we should try regonal meetings first. Then have one large state meeting.

I'm in Jefferson City. I'd be willing to find a place and set up the venue for a larger state meeting. I know I can find local CC members to help. I plan on keeping it simple. One saturday 10-5? Would everyone drive down for that? Possible dates - March 31, April 21, May 5, June 9. Any opinions about these dates? Which day works better for you?

I also need volunteers for displays and demos. Please let me know.

I'm still pretty busy this October, but in November I will focas my attention on this. I will be sending a PM to everyone to try and get your thoughts.

I haven't forgotten our plans on trying to get together. I have been up to my butt in alligators for the last two months with Lions Club. I'm President of our Club and we are super busy at this time of the year. We sponsor the Mighty Mite football program for grades 3-6. Also have been doing amblyopia screenings on the Head Start and Preschool children in our area.

I did manage to squeeze in two large sheet cakes for the nursing home for today and have a birthday cake to do tomorrow after working all day tomorrow in our booth at Oktoberfest. We'll be selling funnel cakes and "Barnyard Bingo" tickets.

My daughter and I are still interested so don't give up on us...........

Hey Mid-Mo group,

Although you should all have received a PM from me, it has come to my attention that some of you aren't getting your messages. I thought I'd put our plans on the forum.

Meeting at my house Nov. 11 at 1:00 pm. As a bonus, msmeg has volunteered to do a demo on candy clay roses. Thank you msmeg. You are making sure our meeting is keeping with the CC philosophy of helping other cake enthusiests learn and improve their skills. I can't wait to learn something new. Your generosity has challenged me to share with the group, also. I'll demo the cookie glazing technique I learned from this site using recipes from here.

Be sure to PM me if you are interested in attending our "getting to know you" meeting. Plus, you'll need directions. It will be pretty informal, but very fun. Right now there is only 6 of us in the Mid-Mo group. Hopefully more will want to attend. Also, you are welcome to bring a friend. I will need a head count to make sure there is enough food for everyone. Don't worry, if too many people want to attend, I have an alternate plan. I'll work out all the details, just make plans to come.

Hi Rooh

Sorry for the lack of info. Busy time for me here as well....Guess that makes all of us.

Yep, St Louis is the area that I'm closest to.....I'd be able to attend meetings there whenever, depending on my work schedule. Meetings quarterly or so would work for me, don't think I could do more often.

I'd be willing to drive to further, statewide meetings, but only occasionally--such as once or twice a year at most.

I'm involved in the local Elks Lodge here, and could get our lodge kitchen easily, but it's certainly not centrally located.

I've been decorating for a while, but I'm entirely self-taught....I'd consider myself a slightly advanced beginner.

Don't know that I'd be able to offer to do any demo's.

While I no longer have my restaurant, I can always get commercial foodservice products/quantities through other restaurants my family has, if that would help anyone.

What else would you like to know?

Thanks,

Tim

Just wanting to verify the St. Louis group plans . . . did we decide to meet quarterly as part of the Sugar Art Guild's meetings or are we also going to try to host some of our own? I know the next Sugar Arts Guild meeting is next week (www.sugarartguild.com) and is open to anyone and anyone can join and become a member. Please let me know if that's what we're planning to do or if people are interested in meeting once in a while outside of that more informally. I know that the Sugar Arts Guild is along the same lines where they have demos, discuss ideas, and have refreshments but the one meeting I attended definitely felt like a "meeting" as opposed to just a get together.

We are in the process of building a commercial equestrian stable right outside of Ballwin / Wildwood and if we decide to put a full kitchen in the office area, then I would have enough space to host an informal get together. I'm thinking more along the lines of snacks and drinks and just sharing ideas ("cake talk"). Our project should be completed by the beginning of the year so let me know if anyone is interested. Even if we don't do the full kitchen in the office, we're building living quarters above the offices that are pretty wide open and spacious so I could even host in our new home.

Did anyone from the St. Louis area make it to the Sugar Arts Guild meeting last night? I wanted to go but had babysitting issues . . . that is, I couldn't get one! My hubby is out of town and I had my sister-in-law lined up to come watch the boys. Then, she gets World Series tickets (from my hubby who couldn't go because he was out of town) so I lost her as a sitter! Can anyone fill me in on how the meeting was and if a group of Cake Central people were able to meet up?

Thanks!
Carol

Hi all, I'm pretty new to CC and the cake decorating world, but wondering if you guys have heard of or are members of ICES (International Cake Exploration Society)? I took classes in Columbia MO from Janette Pohlman's Create-A-Cake and she told our class about it. I joined and attended a fall "Day of Sharing" in KC and learned quite a bit. They are having a St. Louis "Weekend of Sharing" in late April and members and non-members can attend (non-members just pay more). A national show is planned for July in Omaha and they both sound awesome. Since it's a "formal" group there are volunteer positions which help keep the group organized and help set up the various events. Just thought it might be helpful to those that are interested!

Just wanted to post - ADD ME TO YOUR LIST!!!! (Thanks ckkerber for letting me know about this. I'm new to CC.)

I'm in the Arnold/Fenton area but I don't mind driving as long as it can be done in a day! I also just found out about the Sugar Art Guild from my Wilton instructor. I'm in Course 2 of the Wilton classes.

If you need any more info let me know and I'll keep watching for a next meeting/get together. I've not read all the posts yet,.. but I'll catch up! Thanks to whomever started this I think it's great. I also do have access to our church and they have a large kitchen we could use but the do require a 'donation' to cover utility expenses. If there's just 20-30 of us then a $1 each should do it easily! Just wanted to toss that in. I know to that I'm way further south than probably anyone wants but it's available!

Thanks !!!
