i am interested in doing a bake sale fro autism . how would i find out how to do this? are there guidelines??

I'm not sure if it would be a recognized event by them, I think you could sign up to do it, but if it doesn't work, you could probably do the sale and donate all the profits as a donation

yes i would just have the bake sale and donate the proceeds. i am looking to see if there are guidelines ect... for having a home bakes driveway bake sale?

You would have to consult the local health department. Bake sales for charities often get special permission to sell to the public. It is a good cause, but it probably is not legal.

Bake sales are generaly permited if you are a non profit organization like a church or boys and girls club. Sign ust be posted that items are homemade and not made in a commercial facility that is inspected. Now with that in mind the organization is still liable for any illness, allergic reactions. (Someone can get extremely ill eating a chocolate cake even though there were no nuts in products as the oils from peanuts may have crossed contaminated it when you made the batch of rockie road brownies that morning. We were considering this for our church holiday shop and decided not to, because of the risks involved.

My girls did a cookie fundraiser for breast cancer research after my mom died.
I contacted the Breast Cancer Foundation and told them what I wanted to do, and they gave me the okay and even sent us a big envelope with brochures and bookmarks and also the pink ribbon pins to give out with our cookies.
When we were done, I just sent in a check for the full amount with a letter from the girls explaining how they raised the money.

It was a wonderful experience for them.

I did a HUGE bake sale at work for the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. Honestly, I didn't really ask about it. People are always having bake sales everywhere, I guess I didn't figure that I needed special permission from anyone to do it.

That said, I would put up TONS of signs stating what you are raising money for, and also signs with a disclaimer about allergies, etc. I would really hope that anyone with allergies that bad would already know not to eat homemade stuff from someone they don't know, how it was prepared, etc.

Also, I don't know that most charities really mind how you raised the money. You could mail in a check anytime and they wouldn't ask where the money came from, unless you're talking several thousand dollars I think.
