It turned out wonderful. I was so annoyed with how badly I smoothed the sides. I cant for the life of me get perfectly straight sides on my cake. The icing lumps up so the cake has humps on it. Drives me insane and the more I mess with it the worse it gets. The couple loved it and all the guests were raving on how awesome it tasted (I was told I HAD to stay for the wedding lol. They even had the best man and an usher watch over me to make sure I didnt bail) The fun part was seeing the family members who were anti-vegan making such a huge deal over how awesome the cake tasted only to find out later it was vegan lol. I heard a few folks whispering about it oh the cake is great, its so moist yeah did you know it was vegan? vegan!!!! No way! But it tastes so good! I know I know I told them not to get a vegan cake, it would be awful but they did a good job with this one. Oh yeah, Im good icon_smile.gif

Heres the disaster part though. Firstly my MIL came over to see how things were coming along. I had just started icing the first tier. I had made all my icing a few days in advance and put it all in a giant salad bowl. It was sitting on the table behind me and I was standing at the kitchen counter icing when I hear slurping noises. I turn around and see MIL licking her fingers and then dragging them through my bowl of icing. I couldnt believe it. How in the world a grown woman could think that is ever appropriate is beyond me. Then when I yelled at her she laughed and acted like I was overreacting. I had to throw all the icing out and make more.

I dropped the whole bottom 12 inch tier. I could have just cried. It was so perfect, so smooth and both layers of cake baked up perfectly level so I didnt have to cut them. And I just dropped them on the floor. Then when I re-baked it as I was pulling the second layer out of the oven I dropped it. Stupid me grabbed the hot pan with my bare hand and burned the snot out of my palm.

And even though we agreed Id be at the church at 11am they didnt show up until almost 12pm. I sat in the parking lot with the car running freaking out. I just knew the cake was going to melt in the trunk either that or I was going to get frost bite from my AC being cranked up so high.

Well your cakes came out wonderful!

You made me laugh at your stories. I know how you feel though. At the time it's not funny at all.

I am just now taking a break from a cake I thought wouldn't be that hard. Well it is!

I've never done fondant and boy that opened up a whole new can of worms.

I'm hoping I will laugh at it tomorrow.

Anyway, everything turned out great for you. That's what matters.

I can't believe your MIL. You should have smacked her hands or dumped the bowl on top of her head. I bet she thought you were foolisih for tossing it out too. People like that don't think there is anything wrong with them licking the spoon or fingers then touching the food. YUCK!

Good job proving the anti-vegan people wrong!
And your Tux the penguin cake is Cuuuuute!
(Tux is the Linux penguin. Linux is a operating system for your pc. Think windows but much more stable, secure, etc.)
