Just wondering if anyone uses McCall's fondant?????
I have tried making black, purple, red, and pink with the "Wilton" colours but none of them work. I get green for black, orange/peach for red and pink and grey for purple. I have used the "Wilton" fondant and have had no problem making these colours. I also spoke to my cake instructor she and another instructor who have used this McCall's fondant have not had this happen to them. Any of you experience what has happened to me?
I will be contacting McCall's on the issue.

I have never seen McCall's fondant. I have only used Liberty Virgin Ice fondant that I purchased at Bulk Barn.....worked great for colouring with the Wilton colours. Most of the time I make my own now.

Sorry

Thanks for your response.
I guess I should have mentioned that McCall's is based in Toronto.

I did end up calling McCall's and the manager ended up hanging up on me. I thought I handled myself well. Just wanted to voice a concern and recommendation. She hardly let me get a word in. And then she finally appoligized (not very nicely I may add) and I said "that is all I expected to begin with".....and she hung up on me!!!
I contacted head office and spoke with customer service. They were shocked as well that she hung up on me. I am waiting for someone higher up to call me back.

I've heard before that they use some type of whitener in their fondant which poses a problem when you're trying to colour it.

As for the rude manager, I'm surprised as well. Maybe she was having a bad day?

Thanks Purple. icon_biggrin.gif
Someone also mentioned this "whitener" on cakescanada......funny it was never even mentioned to me as the issue from anyone at McCall's.
As for the manager, bad day or not there is no excuse. I didn't deserve that at all!

It's the only type of fondant I use!!! I buy all 3 colours/flavours.

The colours you mentioned are the hardest to achieve in any icing. Use the Americolor dyes and it will work for you without fail! (You can even buy them in Mississauga at Petra International.)

Are you trying to make big batches of coloured fondant, because that's also tricky?

Thanks Antonia.

The thing is it would have been nice if someone mentioned to me that the certain brand of colours works best. They should have a sticker with notification on the fondant. This is what I recommended to the manager but whatever I had to say did not seem to agree with her.
I drove an hour to get there just for this fondant. Then I am making a cake and my colours aren't turning out and I have to go to Michaels to get the Wilton fondant and that stuff is a fortune compared to McCall's.
Also I was not making big batches. I also was just testing colours on small pieces because I didn't want to waste any. Big or small batch I got the same outcome.
I realize some colours are harder to make but I was given the run around. Also I was told they "NEVER" heard of this happening!!!! Can you believe that. I have posted not only here but on cakescanada as well. I have found people who have had the same problem and have called McCall's as well voicing their concerns.
I was even on the Wilton discussion Forum and people there were discussing this fondant. One person also had the same recomendation I did....to put a notice or warning on their buckets of fondant.
So not only is the staff extremely rude but they are liars too!
