I need to make a cake with a 'Dandelion' theme...

Background-it's my fathers 55th and my s-mother has requested a dandelion cake (due to my fathers obsesion with dandelions--he hates them! He's always been a neatfreak about our lawn and so they are his enemy) We used to get in soooo much trouble for blowing the little white puffs when we were small but we all find it so funny now that she wants a dandelion cake to tease him with...

I searched the Gallery and no luck--such an odd request...

Any suggestions are appreciated... I don't know if I want to do it as the yellow flower or as the puff...

I think the yellow ones would be easier to do. I can see like a cross-section of lawn with the grass on top and a big ole dandilion on top with the fat, weedy leaves to go with it. It'll drive him nuts icon_wink.gif

Try a Google search on "dandelion cartoons" or something like that. I've often done this when stumped, and it usually helps.

I can't help you at all. but i was thinking about these little things recently. We too used to blow them and make wishes when we were little. til i grew up and found out how allergic we are to them. lol
Good luck with this, i would LOVE to see it!

Ditto.... I do this too. I google to look at real pics as well as animated, cartoon, and coloring pages. I love using coloring pages or my son's coloring books to do FBCT's.

I think a cake really decorated in some other theme with one dandelion sticking up in the middle would be funny. put in on a wire stick it in so if he pulls on it it willo have a long root LOL

I like krissy_kze's idea of a cross section view...

with lil' elfen like critters propagating the dandelion seedlings for shipment to the SURFACE.

"okay, boys! These are ready to roll!"

Cool idea. Hee hee. I think you should put both the yellow kind and the white kind! - especially considering the history about the white puffs. One thing you could do is use white cotton candy for the white ones, yum. I don't know if you can buy it or make it, but I think it would be nice and tasty.

OK... I might be thinking something like a square cake with a green 55 smoothed out on top and grass all over the top (except the 55 of course) and then have a tractor posed like it's mowing the 55 into the cake... and then have 2-4 dandelions on top (with the huge roots into the cake--love that idea!) and a dandelion border along the bottom (rotate the yellow/white fluffy cotton candy flowers)...
what do you think?

Using the 3-d bear pan, make it look like a kid with lips in blowing position, holding onto a dandelion puff....with a small arsenal of puffs beside his thigh.

Maybe, use fuzzy, fluffy pom poms from the craft dept. for the seed bloom.

That will look really cool! Could you add a tiny figure of a child playing in the dandelions around the border?

I'd keep it simple and make a total grass cake with Happy Birthday written in dandelions!
