I had someone contact me today for an order for Sat. They want two 8" rounds with a 5 on one and a 0 on the other, incorporating red, blue, and a soccer theme. I was think of making mini fondant balls on grass for the top border(?). One cake is spice w/cream cheese filling, the other they want 1 layer white and 1 choc all with bc. I have started charging 2.50 a serve for party cakes so the total for servings alone is $100. It seems like a lot but considering I have to pull this off in one day it doesn't. Any opinions on this? Does anyone have any policies on last minute orders?

Where I am from that might be a little high. According to Wilton you could get 20 servings from an 8 based on a 1x 2, however at Birthday parties cakes are not cut this way. I allow 8 servings on a 2 layer which make a big piece, thats how I cut them for my restaurant. Never got any complaints for not enough cake. I do not price my birthday cakes like a wedding cake. For this area 25 to 35 per cake should do it. You could charge a litte more for last minute order.

With my pricing list I would charge:

$27.50 for one 8" round with spice cake and cream cheese filling.
$20.00 for one 8" round plus $5.00 charge for two flavors - one layer chocolate and one layer vanilla.
$5-10 charge extra decorations
$10 charge for rushed order

Grand total would be: $67.50-$72.50. Which I seems a bit more reasonable than $100.

Just my 2 cents icon_smile.gif

party cakes are not priced per serving! You charge what you feel comfortable charging, but , usual policy is to charge wedding and tiered cakes per serving and party cakes..

well, by what your market can pay.

So, I would love to hear what you ended up charging for the cakes icon_smile.gif

I have set prices for my sheet and round cakes, but I charge my shaped party cakes per serving just like a wedding cake. I figure its the same amount of work and talent, so should be priced per serving as well.

My price list is on my web site. I charge $1.25 per serving on sheet cakes and stacked or tiered cakes I charge $2.50 per serving. I charge extra for "special" flavors. All of my cakes are double layered to produce a 4" high cake and torted so they have 3 filled layers.
