So last week, I decided to make my best friend her birthday cake. I made her no promises on the quality because this would be my first FBCT. So a couple days before her party, I decided to whip up the icing. This is the same exact buttercream that I've used on every cake...no big deal, right? WRONG! I knew I wanted to make a double batch of icing because 1 is never enough. So I started mixing it and was wondering if my little '70s Sunbeam mixer would be able to handle it because it looked like a bigger batch than my usual double batches! I should have known that something was wrong when I had to add way more ater than usual...and the mixer started smoking I had to finish mixing it by hand. Then something clicked...I had used a 4 lb bag of sugar instead of a 2 lb bag! I tasted it, and thought it had tasted better than buttercream...because I had just made decorator icing. So that was ok, nothing too bad. Well, the day I decided to make my transfer, I noticed that the icing was getting hard really fast. Then, once I was almost done, I remembered that it wasn't really buttercream. It never really got frozen like it should have been, just kinda slimy to come off the parchment paper. And full of airbubbles. I thought it was ok, until I tried to put the lid on and smudged it. Everyone seemed to like it, but I wasn't pleased...
The windows in the building actually look really good. I know that had to be tough on you because you knew what it was supposed to look like, but to everyone else it looks just fine. The important thing is that everyone liked it. (I hope your mixer is ok!)
